I mean, I feel like most of the plot points COULD have been executed in a good way.

But they rushed those last 2 seasons so fucking hard and butchered the execution entirely.

If this had been the final scene, completely unedited, the series as a whole wouldve at least made sense. Like, it was clearly just a joke all along tbh

There's really no hyperbole when people say it's one of the worst train wrecks in the history of television based on where it was.

Yes, 100%.

It's such an interesting thing too because everything about it is just top-notch. The acting, the effects, the production values. And it's all just absolutely dogshit writing.

This is also true.

Season 5 was an astonishing dip in quality. The entire Dorne story and Jamie's daughter's death scene were shockingly clich and amateurish.

I did not like how they chose to wrap stuff up, but it still could have been much better had they just took more time. It's very obvious it was originally supposed to last like maybe 2 more seasons still. But the directors got hired to work on a new Star Wars trilogy and they got too eager to finish up and start Star Wars

Even when offered more fucking money by HBO, they still speed ran the ending cause they were fucking done giving a shit. The ironic thing is that because they did this, they got fired from the Star Wars project

Fuck em

Like the actual plot points laid out could all work, but they needed time and subtlety, not taking what should have been the last three seasons and doing it in 6 episodes.

I saw the final season and none of the others. My family wanted me to watch the season finale with them so I did. Ive heard about the show and books from many people but never felt the urge to check it out prior to the season finale.

I thought it was entertaining despite not knowing the backstory of the characters or the overall plot lol..I remember being fond of the scene with the lady burning the town w/ her dragon. Just thought it was amazing visuals for a TV show.

If the books ever get finished, a new sequel show should be made that is based on the book ending. That ignores the shows last season

It was horrendous. Showrunners badly needed to hand the show off to someone who weren't burnt out and were willing to finish things the right way. They clearly weren't that interested anymore and just wanted to move onto other projects but their egos wouldn't let them. I think HBO offered them a blank check and they were like "nah".

Yeah I can believe that. The issue is that there were a lot of story lines the show built over nearly a decade that either went nowhere, got an unsatisfying ending, or took a sharp 180 turn just before the end.

S8 might not be that bad when looked at in a vacuum, it's just an awful anticlimax to a story that was at some point one of the best things to be on tv.

HBO offered them more seasons and more money

HBO offered to find someone else to finish it so they could make star wars.

They said no.

They wanted to be done with it, but they also didn't want to let anyone else finish it for them. They are total assholes

It was pretty bad but like others have said it could have worked if they took their time getting there. All the fast travel was hilarious to me, especially since earlier seasons didn't have that.

I read spoilers before the last episode aired and there was one part that was wrong: Jon discovering a pile of bodies arranged by the WW/Others as the final scene. Would have made for a much, much better ending in my opinion.

A cave-in was a very cheap way to get rid of those two. I would of put them on the wall. No weapons or anything other than clothes to stay warm then give them the coldest room. If the Boltons were still around flaying them alive would be a more entertaining ending. Or slowly poison them a drop a day with wine.

I wanted Jaime to redeem himself by the end. Going back to die with his sister pissed me off so much

Between this and the WoW topic I have been arguing in, it seems like redemption arcs aren't popular these days

In a vacuum the ending itself wasn't bad, it was the couple of years leading up to it that fucked it.

Like, if when Season Four or Five was airing, someone had said to you "this is everything that happens in the last two episodes" nobody would call bullshit because it would have been a really plausible ending at that point.

It's for this reason that I'm 100% sure that GRRM told them that ending, and that's where the books were supposed to be heading too - the negative reception may well be a contributing factor as to why GRRM has not carried on releasing the series. I wouldn't even be surprised if they'd written the scripts for those last episodes years before they wrote the rest of the last few seasons tbh.

The problem comes when as soon as they ran out of source material they went off on some stupid tangents (softening Dani's madness aside from a few lone moments, turning Arya into a superhero, spending a couple of seasons with the White Walkers as essentially the only plot point) that by the time they got to that ending, it no longer made sense in context.

But they plowed ahead and did it anyway, not only delivering an ending that was no longer satisfying in context, but also rushing their original storylines to an unsatisfyingly quick resolution so that things like the White Walkers weren't there to interfere with the last couple of episodes.

The WW stuff was so stupid. The very first scene of the show sets them up as this existential threat to humanity, and then throughout the show the majority of people in power ignore it despite warnings as the threat grows. Then they get completely wiped out by a recently-trained child ninja before they take out one single city.

I'd have been more happy had the WW Menace been the final battle. I always expected the story to end with that. They kept going and had other bullshit after the quick ending to the WW army

They spent the whole series telling us the WW army was the final and ultimate threat to all life and then it gets turned into a side plot in the last season
