Although they're part of the same series It's so different, it really is hard to say. 1 has more of a claustrophobic feel to it and the combat is just average. There's a lot of weapons to choose from but you'll find yourself only using a certain few since they're so much better, and the bosses...well, they suck lol. 2 has a beautiful world that feels more alive and I had more fun exploring, and they seemed to "fix" the crappy boss problem by making combat less involved and with less weapons. Was always leery of buying it after hearing a lot about it, but I've also heard they've fixed a lot of the bugs and other bad parts in the game. Would it be worth the time spent trying it out? I got about 200 hours out of it back when the game was extremely broken.
