What if they came across a specimen that just lost its feathers?

It would make sense for baby and juvenile T-Rex to have feathers since they were smaller like other theropods, and the adults to be featherless or sparsely feathered. Due to their massive size adult Rex probably didn't need feathers to stay warm, kinda like mammals such as elephants, rhinos etc.

I'm seriously starting to consider all of paleontology to be pseudoscience at this point. Seems like these huge controversial discoveries happen every few years when they're low on grant money. And there's not really any good way to prove them one way or the other.

Well it's like any other science field, the more information and specimens we find the better picture we have of what these animals were like. What constituted a dinosaur in depictions in the 1940s is vastly different from today.
