I realised this after playing uncharted 4. That game doesn't ask you to gather items at all. So there's really no reason to go into every corner of every area just to find some health potion you will literally never use. It's oddly freeing because you know from thr jump that the only reason to explore is if you really want to look around.

I'm feeling this a bit now playing god of war ragnarok. I go and make sure I find every chest, but I honestly don't even register what I'm picking up and probably won't use 80% of it.

But then how will you stretch a 5 hour game into 50 hours

Crafting has gotten a bit out of hand, I agree. I explored every ass crack the Lands Between had to offer, but I don't know that getting an Arteria Leaf to craft an item I'm never going to use really added much to Elden Ring.

I know why games do it though, it's an easy way to gate progress and make secrets ostensibly rewarding even if they aren't all that amazing in reality. I only really find it annoying when there's an arbitrary inventory limit like Horizon.

Pretty low on my list of priorities. I think games should stop with the mini games. If I want to play a card game in my action game, why wouldn't I just play a card game? Cause I don't. That's why I'm not playing a card game. Fuck off!

There's an entire genre that's just minigame...games. Why don't you shove your fucking card game in there? Better yet, shove the card game up your arse.

I'm fine with it so long as they don't tie progression to it. Horizon - huh, I'm mentioning that twice in this topic - has a really well made minigame which is roughly as complex as fucking chess and locks a few skillpoints behind it.

It just triggers me because the guide I'm using gets real excited about the card game and I'm not sure if they're being sarcastic or not. Cause I hate it about as much as I hate horse racing or fishing mini games. My horse is meant for fucking off because I get around easier on foot and fishing is for old people!!

It's quite funny you mention RDR2 actually because I love all of the small things to do in the open world.

The narrative whilst good is very restrictive gameplay wise so it was nice to immerse myself in the smaller things whilst playing, not out of obligation for % but simply because I wanted to.

I wasn't sold on Gwent during my first run but I adored it on the second.
