So far, my power is still on, but we'll see how it goes as this progresses.

It's fortunate that temperatures will climb above freezing every day during this, so hopefully that will mean the Texas power grid will hold up.

We were getting requests from ERCOT to conserve power during the summer. I think that was because of some failure somewhere, but if a failure happens during this and we're expecting everyone to be able to run the heat at the same time, it's probably not gonna be great.

Fortunately, I'm going to be in New York/New Jersey for any potential outage.

The state has a fixed maximum power output capacity. I will say that they've increased the max capacity since the disaster in February of last year, but I haven't been able to find any information confirming they've done any weatherization since last year. When they passed the law to force power companies to weatherize equipment as necessary, they also included a provision where they could pay about $150 to just not do it. You can guess which option they chose.

So essentially, we're all just about to find out whether Texas can handle everyone running the heat when it's below 32 degrees all night.

Ugh. It's very moddable to express the minimum of what the execs at these companies and the politicians they lobby deserve.

Hope you arent traveling there tomorrow. Heavy rain, strong winds and flash freezing. Theres going to tons of airline cancellations.

I'm about as ready as I'm gonna be now.

• Outside faucets covered
• Inside faucets dripping
• I've been running the heat today to get the house to be 75 degrees. I don't want to start a power outage with the house at 60 - 62 degrees.
• Heated coat battery is charged
• I've got a space heater
• Powerwalls are fully charged

It's also fortunate for me that we should be getting sun every day through this cold weather, so my house generate a decent amount of solar power, at least for winter time.
