I actually rewatched the first two movies not that long ago, and while it has some good moments Home Alone 2 is kind of a dogshit movie with some really hacky writing and a completely unbelievable premise. Even him running into the Wet Bandits again requires just an absurd amount of suspension of disbelief.

The first one is sooooo much better

1 is magic. Perfect movie.

2 is trying to recapture the magic and misses. Still ok Christmas movie, but not a perfect movie.

I dont remember 3 or 4 being at all good. Never saw 5 or 6

1 is a classic
2 is a typical sequel where it's the first one done again, but it still has its own classic moments.
3 was ok from what I remember. More kiddy and slapsticky, but not offensive. Had a couple fun traps like the trampoline. WAsn't Scarlett Johansson in it too?

Never seen the rest, but I knew a little about 4. It has French Stewart in it who plays Marv, but dresses like Harry and Kevin's parents get divorced and somehow lose a few kids...again. When all the hubbub about 6 first came around, I was confused that there was a 5.

I was thinking something similar. I'm from NYC and it didn't hit me till a recent rerun that the whole ending face off made no sense. Manhattan is absolutely bustling on Christmas Eve night and a little kid being chased by 2 grown men with nobody noticing was pretty wild shit.

I mean, it's no great revelation that Home Alone 2 goes full-blown Looney Tunes with the climax; fine if that's what you're after, but the older I get, the more I appreciate the original for staying fairly grounded with its shenanigans. A tar-covered nail going barely an inch into Marv's foot feels waaay more painful than anything that happens to him in HA2.

That was essentially my point - the gags in the first movie make me wince more because it's more plausible that I myself could experience such an injury. If you take a brick to the skull from 3 or 4 stories up, you're probably not going to remember it (assuming you survive).

Having said that, I do definitely wince in pain every time I see the bricks scene.
