Minimum wage has never had any particular evidence that it increases the cost of goods or services. Instead income inequality has been shown to be the major player when you adjust for current events. The former has mostly been a flimsy attempt by conservatives to decry anything but trickle-down economics and largely has no basis in reality.

The only obvious downside is living in a violent crime capital.

People who try to tie minimum wage increases to increased cost of goods and services seem to always ignore the fact that cost of goods and services has almost always been increasing while minimum wage has not.

They always say that min wage will drive up prices, but never offer any solution for it anyway. They're just happy poor people are struggling. It's also why they get so happy about automation, not for safety or for convenience, but because it screws over poor people.

Oregon

Maybe as a whole, but the cost of living in Portland is far too much. I only make about $1,500 a month, and the lowest rent I can find is around $1,200, which would give me about $300 a month for bills and food.

And I work for a school, I'm the lead. I get paid about the same as foot food workers, and do more work than the fast food managers, which I assume get paid more than me. I really like me job, though. Just sucks. A job like this should pay me a living wage

That's horrible then.

What I don't get is that out of high school I worked a min wage job, which let me have my own apartment. The min I could be legally allowed to make while working let me have my own place. Now that I work above min wage I can't even come close to getting my own place.

Income inequality is dramatically worse. In that vein corporate profits are increasing at a rate that has practically never been seen.

It's a real catch 22

I have an opportunity to move to a much-cheaper state, but the wages there are a mere fraction of what I get paid here

And then there was Ford. Henry Ford realized that no one could afford his cars if they had no money so he raised wages across the board. This movement caused so many waves that it effectively created the middle class (not by itself, obviously).

It does, you can easily see this by looking at price changes every time it goes up.

With that being said, I'll absolutely agree that "minimum wage increases won't fix the problem and may even make it worse, so let's just do nothing instead" isn't the right approach either. Let's look at what can either bring wages up or drive prices down in real terms (not just keep the same situation in practice but use bigger numbers).
