Switch and PS4 let you play without having to download. Xbox does not. So gotta wait on that

Can't play online games half the time because there's a dumb update that takes forever to copy, let alone download

I live in the sticks and my internet is slow to boot. So when I find the time to play something with someone when they find the time and it all lines up, there's a fucking download 20 gigs in size that keeps us from playing it that night. And then we wait until we find the time again, and THERE'S A DOWNLOAD

As for rest mode, power frequently goes out here unexpectedly. Few times a month. And the PS4 in particular acts like it's gonna fucking die when it goes off, so... Ugh

Yeah, UPS stands for Uninterruptable Power Supply. Its basically just a battery for your stuff that dont have batteries such as your PC and consoles. You plug it into the mains and then your stuff into the UPS. The majority of the time, your stuff will draw their power from the mains via the UPS like how a power/extension board works. But when the power goes out, it instantly flips over to the battery and your stuff does not power off. These will keep your stuff powered on through shorter power outages, depending on how much you spend on one and how much you plug into it you could get away with around 2 hours of battery life during a power outage, I think the average for cheaper UPSes is 20 minutes or less though. When the power comes back on it will start charging the battery again and put all your stuff back through to the mains.

Unfortunately they wont help much for extended power outages. Thats where you would need a generator.

I do hate the frequency of updates, my internet isn't bad but my gaming time doesn't start until my kid goes to sleep and if i have to wait an hour for an update then i lose an hour of gaming time

Lmao I had the update copying in rest mode. I thought. Turned it back on to see where it was at and it fucking started over

on one hand sure. but on the other hand i play Europa Universalis 4, and thanks to the updates, that's a completely different game now than it was when i bought, for the better

Not to mention that the game developers can release unfinished buggy games because they can just fix it later.
It's an all around bad thing for gaming.
