Buddha wasn't a name, it was a title. The first Buddha was Sidhartha Guatama. He was far from fat. I've never seen a statue of him but he would look anorexic . Legend says he once did nothing but sit under a tree for like a year nonstop. Didn't move, didn't eat or drink

He was born a prince. But the legend is he snuck out of the palace one day for the first time in his life. And he saw suffering in the city. He renounced his royal heritage and ran away. Then spent the rest of his life as a wandering philosopher and monk

The fat guy we see in Chinese restaurants i think is someone else

I've been studying it for about 4 or 5 years now and I've enjoyed it so much.

Also to answer the question about the Fat Buddha/Happy Buddha/ Chinese Buddha that you see in Chinese restaurants. That is a figure of semi historical value to the Chinese, not necessarily of value to any other culture. That is not the actual Buddha, the creator of Buddhism, but rather simply..."a buddha". Anybody can become "a buddha", and enlightened person, but there's only one The Buddha and that's not the one that you see in Chinese restaurants/culture.

Nobody knows what the actual Buddha looked like but the ones that you see depicted in Chinese culture and restaurants is of value to that culture and is depicting a person that possibly existed that supposedly attained enlightenment. But that person should NOT be confused with the actual Buddha.

Apparently he has some fans (is admired) in Japan, Korea and Vietnam too. Interesting.

I usually call him the Fat Buddha or Laughing Buddha. But he's not The Buddha.

There is no "actual" Buddha, nobody "created" Buddhism, we are all Buddha, and the reason the "icon" of Buddha is depicted as obese in Chinese culture is because it's a sign of prosperity and a good life.

No, everyone is Buddha, not just the enlightened people. You are Buddha but you don't have to accept it or believe it...

Depends on what Buddhism you practice. Most Mahayana sects believe in multiple Buddhas, but Theravada believe Guatama was the only Buddha. But in all beliefs, and this sounds somewhat contradictory, we are all Buddha in the sense that the Buddha nature lies in everyone

Read my post above. I've practiced three separate sects of Buddhism over twenty years. And my guess is that you know little of Buddhism and probably very little about Zen...

milder version of buddhism is chill. you just learn to chill and not to be greedy. literal interpretation of samsara and the ways to achieve nirvana will bring stagnancy or even the end of humanity

Just to clarify--Gautama is very likely to have been a real person, the other 27(ish) Buddhas preceding him are almost certainly fictional.
