Russian ad for enlisting in the army: if you have no skills and can't apply yourself, go become a soldier.

Most militaries rely on people with little skills to be soldiers, to be fair

Difference is you probably weren't going to die. And you werenot fighting an evil war. Most Russian soldiers know they will die. They are being slaughtered like flies in Ukraine. And there is no honor in their fight. They are dying for Putin

I mean I joined at the relative tail end of the war on terror so I could've wound up in Iraq or Afghanistan and been blown up. Doubly so cause my job used to be known as an IED magnet.

But not in an active, direct conflict with dozens to hundreds of deaths per day

The benefit the Russian army has over a regular workplace is that instead of paying wages or laying off its workforce, it can simply send its employees into the meatgrinder.
