As someone who played FFXI from 2004-2009 and started playing again in 2017, I can't understand why anyone would want to go back.

There's punishment and then there's outright poor game design, which classic FFXI was rife with. Admittedly, I have not looked into Horizon very much, but if they didn't do anything regarding classic FFXI's terrible travel system, that alone makes it a terrible product.

in modern day ffxi you can get teleported to at least the adjacent zone of wherever you want to go using survival guides, voidwatch, etc. the game is honestly in an incredible state and I might go resub to official servers

Yeah, travel and leveling up times in current FFXI are great. My biggest gripes right now are Master Levels, which are absurd grinds for little return, and timegates, such as the entries to Sortie and Odyssey. Mandatory player minimums for content like Dynamis-Divergence, Delve, and Vagary are annoying too, but not as aggravating.

If any game needs a complete remaster its this one. Actually, the word I wanna use is Remake.

14 kinda remake itself TWICE to get where it is now

14 feels smooth today to play, 11 still can't rid of the PS2 jank that its systems are limited by

really? i didn't know that.

I always thought since the dropped supporting the PS2 and Xbox360 the sky was the limit.

they're still developing on a dwindling number of ps2 dev kits lol

they would have to completely rewrite the game from the ground up to escape the limitations of the ps2

No. Its more WoW-like. FFXI was its own thing. Did I like dying and losing 4,500,873,902,987 EXP, and having to kill 45 trillion Crawlers to gain it back? No. But it made the game all the more exciting.

I feel like this was part of keeping players to pay the monthly fee. Make the gameplay verrrry long
