The headbutt is legendary but the match was really boring. Italy played very defensive and boring games and the final was especially boring up until the incident.

Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals. A 73 win Warriors team blowing a 3-1 league with home court advantage is pretty historic. The last couple minutes of the game so was intense with iconic moments like Kyries shot and LeBrons block.

It was a fantastic game, and undoubtedly the best World Cup final ever...but it has to be said that the 30-40 minutes where Argentina was up 2-0 was not the most scintillating stuff. The pace and the openness of the final 40 minutes was really remarkable, but the game took a long time to reach that level.

A game ending on a penalty kick shootout can never be the best game ever

That was a pretty good game. The fact it the game was played between two historic losers was certainly helped.

There was a massive parade in Chicago a few days later, which supposedly had 5 million people watch in person. Seems kind of crazy, but anecdotally, I knew someone who lived in a small Illinois town at the time by a small train station. On that day you apparently couldn't find a spot anywhere to park because of all the people taking the train to Chicago.

Mbappe turned that match on its head in no time flat, because it was not a terribly great match for the first 65 minutes. Unless youre an Argentina fan, of course.

It was too bad for France that, in the end, their keeper Spursed it up for them.

For people who hate penalty kicks, what do you propose to fix the problem? Personally, I like the idea of an untimed sudden death overtime, however, I've heard many people hate the golden goal when FIFA used it. Maybe we can have soccer truely live up to its stereotypes where a tie results in no one winning the championship.

They tried golden goal but all it did was stagnate creativity because teams didn't want to take chances and lose the game on a bad play so games ended up going to penalties anyway.

If you have to have them do it before extra time and if it's still tied then they can decide the game. But they should never end something like the world cup.

In the FA Cup, games that end in a draw are replayed at the other team's stadium. But they've done away with that for the semis and final, and given the condensed schedule of the WC it's not really a practical solution there either.

I think they still do it in Australian football, though.

No watching a team continue to throw incompletions to keep the clock stopped or, call pass plays from shotgun that result in huge sacks to have a drive in field goal range somehow end in a punt, while managing to have to punt the ball back so quickly as to give their tired defense absolutely zero rest instead of simply running the football to kill the clock like they should have been doing..what I'm saying is that watching a team completely screw basic fundamental game management is not an ambassador of one of the greatest championships ever.
