So at my house we feed a few feral cats to encourage them to stick around (as such we never see snakes or rodents around) but there is one that's figured out we keep the food inside and sometimes just comes in. Now when inside she will let us pet her pick her up etc. But when she's back outside around the other feral cats she reverts to acting feral and won't let us within arms reach let alone pet her.

Is she putting up a front for her feral buddies?

Probably really getting scared because they are reading the behavioral cues of their buddies.

Yeah I managed to snag another feral last night and bring her in. And the feral that does come in on her own did seem very confused by her presence. I let her back out though cause it was clear she didnt wanna be there.

I'm honestly surprised I haven't had my ass handed to me anymore than I have with my dumbass just grabbing hold of feral cats.

Oh side note about this cat. We did catch her once way back before she'd start coming in and we went to take her get fixed cause she stays fucking pregnant. Well she got loose at the vet and ran away. About a fucking week later she's back on our back porch begging for food lol. So for better or worse we are stuck with her.

What makes it weirder to me is we have one domesticated cat that's indoor/outdoor and they don't bat a eye when they see me pet him pick him up etc. And they don't treat him any differently either.
