Every art has effective techniques. Learn those and practice applying them. Leave the flashy stuff for katas and demonstrations.

Dirty fighting will not save you from a blue belt in BJJ if things go to the ground.

Nor will it help you from a boxer or wrestler with even average skill.

Please learn real techniques.

Some of it just seems like it's definitely from an era where half the people at war were peasants, so you could learn goofy shit like Bajiquan and beat up farmer people if you both managed to fight unarmed.

Knowing martial arts means you have increased options in a fight. Just because a martial artist retaliates and kicks you in the nuts doesn't mean he's no longer using martial arts. If anything that just means they're going to apply that kick to the nuts with even more force than the "just see red" bro because they actually know how to leverage their kicks effectively in a fight.

Too many variables. Weapons, more than 1 assailant, etc. The best option is to michael scott it. "The best martial art is a good pair of running shoes."

Why do you insist on the notion that if a martial artist was in a fight outside of the context of their sport that they'd restrict themselves to the rules of their sport?

remember in beat em ups thered be moves where you could push a bunch of buttons at once and do like a super roundhouse attack, but it would reduce your health slightly

what would be the real martial art equivalent?

Probably any kick or knee or whatever that puts you in the air. It's kinda risky too.

Gracie also had an element of surprise up his sleeve.

Now that BJJ is more well known it would be interesting to see a UFC or equivalent fight with early MMA rules and see how trained fighters fare against a BJJ specialist.

I do belive that the next big martial art of the future will be created to counter BJJ.

Right, and they are easily recognizable as the sensible ones here.

But all the logic and reasoning in the world isn't going to convince or silence the hermits like Abdul here.

So, for a layman reading this topic it's just going to be a bunch of confusing back and forth.

Just by practicality, by physics, there's nothing to counter BJJ that isn't already part of BJJ. Martial arts has already hit that level of global exposure that really separates the chaff from the wheat. The next "meta" is generally going to be some sort of focus on an aspect of an already established martial art, to counter whoever is dominant at the time.

Boxing doesn't just magically stop being boxing just because a boxer punches you in the back of the head and stomps you out once you hit the ground. That's still a person that's spent hours in the gym and the ring, practicing combinations, honing technique, building stamina, and increasing their strength that's now taking that training and making you regret it on the street or in a bar.

I met a family friend's son last Christmas, he is a master of some kung fu with a weird name, and he has to travel to China to teach/showcase his skills because apparently he was taught by one of the last masters of the art while living in China before he died. Anyway, I asked him if he ever had to use his martial arts in real life, he said no, and we had a nice long awkward silence until I went to get another Christmas cocktail because we were day drinking in Napa Valley.

Depends. There are enough McDojo's in the world that "I trained in <x>" doesn't necessarily mean anything. It's also particularly appealing to nerdy people because they perceive it as replacing a physical requirement (getting stronger) with a mental one (learning techniques).

That being said "real martial arts training" will tend to improve your physical fitness, balance, etc. which obviously have some benefit in a fight.

Some are ineffective. I remember hearing about this mma guy who fought a lot kung fu guys in China. It was clear mma was far more effective, but the chinese government didn't like that their traditional martial art was shown to be ineffectual. They ruined the guys life. They even had to rid the judging of a fight just so their kung fu master could get a draw with the guy.

Dude's still at it. I can't say if he's the most skilled fighter of all time, but he is definitely the most badass. China makes his life as hard as fucking possible, but he just keeps challenging false idols, and absolutely destroying them.

Mate, you have no idea what youre talking about.

In proper Krav clubs its all legal.

The fact is, the better fighter wins 99% of the time. The fact that you think theres no defence against the attacks that you consider dirty just shows how clueless you are.
