I work in a database systems change management type role. Going into companies, changing their processes, setting up their databases properly, etc. Much of this means getting a bunch of people to change how they do things and do a bunch of admin to set things up correctly.

There's almost an entirely unilateral distinction between how teams of men are at this sort of thing vs teams of women. Even just when it's like, 4 women and one guy.

Guy's fucking suck at admin. Or even just like, following up on things, doing tasks.

I have to set tasks for people to do and honestly most of it is pretty boring. Go into this system, update these 300 records. Create a spreadsheet with all the points you need covered. Set up these email templates. Stuff like that.

When I have groups of women, they write everything I say down, and then when it comes to the same session next week they've had an honest crack at it and actually done a bunch of stuff that needed to be done.

When it's teams of men, my god the sessions are painful. Either they don't say anything at all and ask no questions and absorb nothing, or they throw up all sorts of hypothetical arguments for every potential problem, but when it comes to actually doing stuff it rarely happens.

This pattern is so common now that every time I onboard a new client I genuinely hope that the operations team is mostly women, so that the next 3 months are less painful.
