Theres pediatric patients being admitted to adult ICUs.

Viral illnesses are spreading like wildfire - RSV, flu, covid, and others.

You literally can't even find infants/childrens tylenol at stores, its sold out everywhere. My wife called like 5 different gas stations and eventually found 1 that had JUST received a new shipment so she put one aside from us - our kids have common cold, not any of the above viruses.

My guess is herd immunity waned significantly with all the covid lockdowns and masks and stuff, so now its all raging back.

My twins had something that gave one of them a fever for over a week and the other a fever for two weeks.

Childrens med shortage is here in the Midwest/south as well.

Yup, I know a lot people that got the flu and almost ended up in the hospital.

I think your immune system weakens if you don't get sick occasionally.

Thats generally how its done. The "peds" patients with adult sized bodies, typically the 16-17 year olds, along with adult type of problems like DKA or drug overdose, tend to go to the adult ICU when there is a bed crunch.

Also, PICU nurses are super high demand right now for this reason. Theres just not enough staff to float them. Wife was telling me she's seeing PICU traveler assignments for $8k/week. Thats insane.

It's been crazy. Everyone I know has been sick these past two weeks. I'm recovering as well. Luckily none were severe enough to go to the hospital, but it's been awful. It's not covid either. Cold/Flu medicine are sold out at all the local pharmacies.

If only people weren't afraid of vaccines and masks.

I've been masking up again for sure. Though, coincidentally, I work as a network tech building the network infrastructure for new hospital buildings/expansions...so #doingmypart
