Everyone always says 2, or 4, or THUG are the best ones, but NO! 3 is unequivocally the best entry in the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series and I will prove it!

-Fantastic levels: Pretty much every level in this game is fun as fuck. Canada, Airport, Skater Island, LA, Tokyo, and Cruise Ship are all my top levels in the series. Plus every level even has some fun secret area to find in it. It may be small like in Foundry or it might literally double the size of the level like Skater Island and Tokyo. Even LA had the entire level radically change when you caused an earthquake. None of the other THPS games have ever had such a concentration of pure quality in their levels like THPS3 has.

-Secret Skaters: There are tons and tons of fun hidden skaters to obtain. Stuff like Darth Maul with his double lightsaber, Wolverine, the Neversoft eyeball, a Succubus with barely any clothes >___>, and even Doom Guy on the PC version. They all have wacky special moves that you can put on your custom skater, and if you hit NPCs with them they have special animations associated with them (ie: Darth Maul force chokes them, Succubus sets them on fire, etc.) Other Tony Hawk games definitely had their fair share of fun secret characters, but only 1 or 2 fun ones at most. THPS3 went balls out with a lot of them.

-Neversoft tomfoolery: you can tell the devs had fun making this game. There's videos of them placing money bets on which of them can land a kickflip first. Or having them bring their kids to the office to say hi to the camera during the credits movie. Showing old homevideos of them on skateboards doing tricks in their backyard. A video where the devs are playing musical chairs to win a PS2 and trolling each other in playful ways. There's even a video of them falconpunching Tony Hawk in the arm while he's recording dialogue just Tony wanted to prove how tough he was lol. The entire credits scene to this game is definitely a top 10 in all of gaming, because it's just a video of them and Tony Hawk fucking around for 10 minutes and it's super fun to watch. Plus it's humanizing to see the faces who worked on the game >_>

-NPCs: The NPCs were new to the series in THPS3 and they made the most of them. They add a lot of life to the levels and comedy into the game. You can knock them down, get slapped by them, and they give you extra points if you do tricks in front of them. Some levels even have special npcs like Canada has a dude peeing in a lake (and if you lip trick next to him, he'll fall into the frozen lake), Skater Island has a pirate that talks to you when you lip near him, the cruise ship has these tubetop wearing Neversoft chicks that have jiggle physics on their boobs when they jump up and down (in all their low poly PS2 glory >_>), and even the captain of the cruise ship is making snide remarks the whole time you're skating that are pretty funny. The NPCs just add so much to the levels that the other games just havent replicated on the same level.

I feel like all the others always lacked something compared to THPS3; they do certain parts better, but other part lack because of it. But for THPS3, the whole game just comes together so well. And of course it has the Rodney Mullen trick video. No wonder it's literally one of the highest rated PS2 game of all time.

I feel like THPS3 was the pinnacle of the charm of the series and I agree with everything in topic. Although I still put THPS4 right along side of it in quality and level design.

Yeah, fuck Activision for killing off THPS 3+4 because they shipped the studio to the CoD dungeon

Losing track of time in THUG 2's story mode is one of the best feelings in any game. You go to Boston and you start ripping through the player and Jesse James' challenges real quick, then you keep the combo for the arcade machine going to see how high you can get it. Then that's become the priority and you're just skating for fun. And then the 6th gen day night cycle kicks in, the world and sky change color but even though it's night, none of the characters stop what they're doing or accept that the day is over, they just turn the lights on and keep going. And then you're about to stop but THERE'S A BLACK CLOUD OVER THIS HOUSE THAT'S BEEN AROUND FOR THREE YEARS NOW and now you're totally revitalised and you gotta bust a combo to the song. And that's just Boston, It's even better on Barcelona, Berlin and Nawlins.
Edit: Oh right forgot to say this was originally a response to the 2:00 timer. I'd take THUG 2 story mode over being asked to do the speed run every time.

And that soundtrack THUG 2 has. I don't blame you not mentioning the soundtrack, you're not competing with this.

3 is my favorite of the series

I'm surprised nobody ever mentions 2X as one of the GOAT Tony Hawk games.

It's the best entry in the series but on a much improved engine, supported online multiplayer and had the entire level selection from THPS1 and THPS2, in addition to other exclusive levels.

Honestly, 2, 3, 4, THUG, THUG2 are all great and I almost see arguments that put any of those at the top of the series

The exclusive levels are pretty trash from what I heard tho. Plus it was Xbox exclusive so not a lot of people played it

I used to love causing the earthquake lol

But I was bummed out when the PS2 version didn't let you climb the skyscraper like the PS1 version unless there was just some other way to do it

It's not about skill, the unlimited timer is more fun and the mission design of later games is better

THUG2 for me as well

Another great one is Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure, made with the engine of THPS4

My only experience with the Disney game is playing Andy's room in THUG Pro >_>

3 was the perfect interation of the series' core gameplay. the revert was the link that just made everything fit together pefectly. and while getting off your board was an interesting concept i feel like it diluted the formula a little bit

Getting off your board was pretty fun and all the parkour moves in American Wasteland were also fun. Too bad American Wasteland is really ehhh and unpolished

3 > THUG2 > 4 > 2 > THUG > THAW > 1
