Sonic Frontiers has taken the blue blur in a bold new direction with its "open-zone" gameplay, and it appears to have paid off.

Sega has today revealed the new title by Sonic Team has now sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide since its November 8th release. This figure represents both physical and digital sales across all platforms including the Nintendo Switch.

"Sonic Frontiers, the Blue Blurs first open-zone, action-adventure platforming game released worldwide on November 8, 2022, has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide."

It follows news earlier this month Sonic Frontiers would be receiving a free DLC roadmap for 2023. Players can expect a jukebox, photo mode, new story content, and much more. Sega is also rolling out a free 'Holiday Cheer Suit' DLC next week.

while its not a perfect game by any means, i've been enjoying it quite a bit! definitely feels like Sonic Team's experiment at an open world Sonic game and for a first try, i suppose its not as bad as i expected even tho it does lack in certain areas (pop ins, boring side quests, linear levels suck...).

plus its dope how we're getting extra content in the future for free!

It's a good Sonic game and a decent game, overall.

It's the only Sonic game I've had a mild interest in for a very very long time. I'm probably not going to buy it, but if they keep making better games in the same style, I'd definitely check it out.

Good. This sends a message that theyre on the right track.

Hopefully Sonic Team takes the hint and polishes this formula (rather than doing what they usually do, which is throwing random shit against the wall to see what sticks).

It isn't their first try tho. Not necessarily. Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis was basically a tech demo for this game.
