Time to move onto human trials!

On its face the topic title just sounds typical of animal testing (which is an unfortunately necessary part of medical testing)

now, if they were killed in cruel and unusual ways, thats a different story

i've read about the deaths of so many test subject animals in biomedical research publications

pre-human drug trials are rife with such, particularly since they euthanize the animals afterward to investigate the systemic efficacy or risk of medications, assuming the medications or dosages don't cause death beforehand

people would read this and still immediately get in line for one

I don't really care at all about animal testing as long as it's for actual proper research. The only bad thing about this is that it's for clear vaporware nonsense that'll never come to fruition, so it's just a waste of life.

This is such clickbait. It feels like a high number, but I have no idea how many mice and monkeys die in an average R&D cycle.

There are lots of reasons to criticize Neuralink. This is not one of them.

Well... every year in the USA alone more than 110 million animals are killed in US laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing.

People need to read the original article before responding. The scientist working on the experiments complained that Musk wanted them to speed up too much and do too many things at once. They are needlessly killing animals due to mistakes being made from rushing things. The results can't even be used in those instances and the animals have to be put down because rushing and doing it wrong with exploratory surgeries proves to be worthless.

There's 365 days in a year. 365 x 4 is 1460 plus 1 for leap year.

Elon killed a little over 1 monkey per a day. That's pretty unreasonable even in the context of research done on animal.

Elon Musk was aggressively reckless with his testing. When he ran afoul of chimpanzee testing the first time he moved everything to a private research facility where he could dodge scrutiny. Most of that death could have been avoided if he just contributed to existing research already being done in the field.

I don't think they've ever used chimps. That would never get through any ethics review.
