It was mostly boring. The first half was a slog, and when it finally picked up it was too little too late for me personally. There was some good things about it, but mostly just Ralph Fiennes. Actually, Ralph Fiennes probably has the best comedic line read of the year in this movie. Most of the other characters are just annoying (which is the point, very unenjoyable though), or incredibly dumb. Actually, all of the characters other than Fiennes were dumb af.

Seems like this movie really wanted to be thought of in the same vein as Knives Out but it really missed the mark.

I liked it. I did find the first half interesting and love the societal criticisms. My only issue is the ending, which I won't go into.

It seems to have a pretty positive response overall from both critics and moviegoers.

I thought the first half was decent actually. The build up was quite tense. But then when the "black comedy" parts really kicked in, it was sort of ruined for me.

so is it a closed room mystery, or whatever you call it?

because regardless of its quality, I wanna see more movies in that genre.

I think my problem with the first half was that none of the characters outside of Fiennes were particularly interesting enough to keep me engaged. And IMO (lol) Anya Taylor Joy and Hoult's characters were the least interesting characters in the film.

I appreciated the nods to class and elitism but it didn't have anything really to say about it other than a surface level observation. I think Glass Onion did a better job there.

More like a closed room thriller/suspense, not really a mystery. The entire movie takes place in the restaurant with the exception of a few scenes.

I don't entirely disagree, but I think the leads got more interesting as more info was provided. And yes, Glass Onion did a better job.

I loved the ending though with the cheeseburger. The fact that she realized she needed to take him back to his original love for simple cooking was awesome. And it made me really want to cheeseburger. I just hated how the rest died with their passivity

I made a topic when it came out. It has this recent trope most "horror" or "Elevated" movies are doing. Where all characters just willfully let all the dumb shit happen to them

Oh, thats bad.

It generally doesnt bode well for a story if the main characters arent interesting. Some people prioritize plot, but it doesnt mean as much if youre not invested in the characters. We dont have to like them. We just have to want to know whats going to happen to them next.

I think they fucked up by having the old man as the one who fought back/tried to escape. Cuz all they did was trip him then had like 3 dudes apprehend him. Wasn't really a convincing deterrent. Then when Leguizamo was like let's fight back bros they kinda brushed him off lol then at the end Fiennes handwaived it by saying some shit like "you guys didn't even fight back, if you did you probably would have won." Seemed a little lazy.
