as far as I know it depends upon how far along the evolutionary trail they are and which particular splits they take. It is also all based on circumstantial evidence.

I believe that dinosaurs were cold-blooded, but would often keep themselves warm at night with a 15-tog duvet and brushed cotton bedsheets.
