It's one of my case studies cited in my "Theory of Never Getting Excited About New Games".

I remember someone made a video about it saying they kept making bad gambles. Apparently the first one launched at a bad time and got over shadowed... but I don't remember what the game was. Then this year they launched it near Elden Ring and it was largely ignored due to that.

both games completely eclipsed and made everyone forget horizon exists

that being said, first one is mad crazy good

second one was meant to just be dlc and it's very obvious

Were they released together I guess there were released close to each other I think I got Horizon later, so I fell in love with the game, even though I played a shitton of BotW

The first game had a good story and world building.

But they undercut everything with the kill scene, all the mystery is gone and the game and lore become pointless

I'd argue that's not exactly the case. The real problem is that they left themselves with nothing but bad ideas for how to follow through with building the sequel plot (and the implied trilogy plot), which in turn sort of retroactively killed the interest of people who actually liked the first game.

I feel like there were plenty of cool ideas they could have run with after the end of the first game. They just didn't use any of them.

I refuse to play the second one due to that one guy shit-talking Elden Ring.

I gotta get a PS5 one day and buy both games.

I didn't like what I played of the first game at all.
It was boring and taking down the enemies seemes to take forever.

Loved the shit out of the first game. Gonna hold off on the sequel until I get a PS5 or it comes to PC

As someone who has played both, and enjoyed both, Elden Ring is a thousand times more enjoyable.

It took me a while to get into both Zero Dawn and Forbidden West but when I did, I had a lot of fun. I prefer Zero Dawn though since I like its story and relative ease in upgrading gear

I have the first one but I've never played it.

neither one is great imo

but helly played hfw for like 1500 hours

I personally liked figuring out how to take down certain enemies Ans uses their weak spots against them

It might just depend on he type of games people like Some people might just like one or the other more Like both the Horizons seem better to me Ive seen a lot of Eldin Ring (my brother and most friends have it), but I guess that type of game never really got my interest

Maybe it is just my friend group, but I remember at least part 1 being huge in popularity and presence.

I chose to play HFW before Elden Ring.

It was the wrong choice.
