A huge number of upright pianos were built post ww2 through the 70s. Unless its really fancy they arent worth anything.

My dad gave away a piano. His wife didn't want it anymore and he never played it; it was from when my sister took lessons as a child 40 years ago. So there's not necessarily any catch. It's cheaper to give it away to someone who will pick it up than to have someone haul it away.
