Extremely in depth mech customization with a static mission structure where you work for different corporations as a merc and build up a sweet mech to fight other mechs. Most of the games in the series are pretty clunky but 4 / For Answer ramped it up to be enjoyable to play (then 5 went backwards again). Get mission, get paid (based on ammo used and damage taken out of the resultant pay), buy new stuff and unlock new gear based on the corp you worked for.
