And before you respond, please spare me all the generic arguments about why Japan is actually not a '''''paradise'''' tyvm. I've heard them all and I still wish I lived there. Anyone else agree?

I think the draw is just it being different with out it sounding so overwhelmingly oppressive. Of course, it entirely depends on the line of work you end up with. Like YouTubers that put it in a really good light are of a very small percentage. Some of them already started rich.

Sometimes I do entertain the fantasy about settling down there, but generally, no. I don't think I could put up with living there.

I have no interest in living in a place where I cannot understand anything but the random tourist bits.

No.

Maybe I'll visit Japan but I definitely wouldn't want to live in Japan.

Arcades are nice, friendly people no doubt, amazing culture...

But it's not something that suits me 100%. Plus my family and friends is here in the states so that's a major deal breaker for me

why

Some people don't like to leave places. I know some people who still live in my hometown with 100k population and the bowling alley and mini-golf is enough excitement for them.

No. I'd like to visit again someday if I can. I probably won't though

I got to go in 2004. Was very fun but I also learned I would not be able to live there. Maybe if I dint have so many problems I might be able to. But Japan is not a good place for an autistic foreigner

I like spicy food and don't care much for Japan's obsession with work or its take on Confucian honor.

I'd love to visit someday and I really admire much of their entertainment but I would not want to live there.

It's sort of both true and not true

My experience in 2004 was that most adults are capable of conversation. But they don't feel very confident, and prefer not to use their English skills unless they are forced to

If I was rich yeah but if I had to work there I probably wouldn't enjoy it. I have a friend that lived there for a few years teaching English in School and they were pretty miserable. They have weird social norms like if you're done with your work early for the day you're expected to linger around "just in case" you're needed until it's your normal time to go home. Also they were oddly adverse to her using her phone during lunch, like it was some social taboo. Not sure if it was common or just a quirk of where she was though.
