TLDW ppl are gluing barnacles on to fresh water turtles then peeling them off causing immense pain and harm to the turtle

Why do people seem to abuse turtles so much? I keep hearing stories about turtles being mistreated in particular. Is it because they are slow and vulnerable? I dont get it.

They're definitely sea turtles, I can recognize that much at least.

On youtube there are a ton of thumbnails that appear to be actual sea turtles.

The explosion of fake video copycats in the last several years is surreal. Fake animal rescue, fake antique restoration, fake... mouse trapping? Someone finds a successful video format and dozens of imitators immediately pop up.

I would never abuse any animal but like especially turtles. They're the chillest little dudes in the world

Seriuosly, the worst part is the amount of people believing in this fake garbage.

Sea barinicles are widely known to damage ship hulls to the point it can cause the ship to sink or something iirc... Not sure why people think that REMOVING them from a living creature wouldn't cause them any harm.

So is removing them from sea turtles not a bad thing?

I'm new to this issue, know very little about barnacles.

I think it's about people that put the barnacles on the turtles to make videos of them taking the barnacles off, which is disgusting.

They do this for tick removal videos too. They glue a huge amount of fake ticks to a dogs face and rip them off. Thankfully the ones I've seen don't have them glued on well at all, they kinda just fall right off and the dogs don't seem to be in pain.

Well barnacles eventually fall off on their own. You do more harm to a living creature if you try to remove it by force...

Or in this case, the person gluing sea barnacles is doing major harm to both the turtle and barnacle.

I thought the thing was

• Guy does YT account where he works with actual sea turtles and does rescue stuff.
• This may or may not be a thing he should be doing (I'm pretty sure the original isn't glueing barnacles but I don't know enough about turtles or barnacles to judge).
• Bottom feeding clout chasers start faking it for dolla dolla bills, actively hurting the turtles.
• Don't need to know much to know land turtles don't get fucking barnacles.

Honestly I don't know that much either tbh
I only know that sea barnacles are non moving creatures that latch themselves on slow moving creatures or sometimes even boats. For every day people they're a nuisance because they damage ships, for animals like whales and turtles it's more of a mutual coexistence, if they latch on to turtles they might help the sea barnacles find food...

not exactly, large amounts can weigh down turtles which makes getting around harder, more energy-expending, makes them easier targets for predators, etc.

Yeah there are a lot of animal abuse videos on youtube. There are like a bunch of channels abusing animals pretending they are doing conservation or whatever just to get clicks and views but because most people have little knowledge about the animals, they go under the radar.

I saw a channel where these dudes in some SEA country "finding" wild axolotls in their lake. Wild axolotls only exist in one specific place in Mexico and are endangered.

i've seen it done to the big leatherbacks, but they also seemed very careful and methodical about it. to a degree, even if it hurts the turtle at the time, it may be for the better if it means they live better after it's done
