My first GSC playthrough was with Chikorita and the first other 5 Pokemon I caught.

My E4 team was Meganium, Ariados, Noctowl, Quagsire, Togetic and Haunter (no frens).

Maybe that's why I'm not as fond of Gen 2 as everyone else, come to think of it...

I loved Chikorita because Meganium was great as a support, meanwhile both Typhlosion and Feraligatr had better alternatives for their typing that filled the same niche

Disagree on all three. Chikorita looks weird. Bayleef is okay at best. Meganium is awesome with its huge flower.

Yeah, I think Meganium is hurt by being a starter focused on defense and support rather than offense. Especially with Bellsprout right there at the beginning of the game, a much more aggressive Grass-type.

Probably doesn't help either that Chikorita gets its shit wrecked by the first two gyms, so you have a more difficult start compared to Cyndaquil or Totodile.
