I would post some of the (SFW) images I took in the eroge section of a huge store in Akihabara but there's no way they will fit with the GameFAQs size limit. It was an interesting experience browsing shelves full of them in real life amongst hardcore otaku looking guys. Didn't buy anything because I didn't know anything about a lot of the games and didn't want to bother trying to research to see if they were actually good, but they pretty much had every VN you could possibly want there. Store was called Trader or Traders.

Sure I posted an image of saying mfer and I was like, I feel bad doing this, at one time I got in trouble because I wanted to post about the buzzcocks. The autothing said you can't post it, so it was so dumb. I was like hey it's that band called thebuzzstuff.

I think words once were harmless, but I am going to derail myself. Some guy in a Discord was in Akihabara (just street stuff and one picture with a maid) but it's pointless to subject him to Gamefaqs and post without permission.

Can I ask what Visual novels ppl play that are semi normal?

If you're still interested in "normie-core" entry-level VNs, here's a list I think you might find helpful:

• Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy - You play as a rookie lawyer who goes through various different cases attempting to get those accused of murder a not-guilty verdict. It's quite funny and has some gameplay elements. (DS, 3DS, Wii, Switch, PS4, XBO, Steam)
• The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles - Similar to the above but you play as Phoenix's ancestor in Victorian England as he attempts to make a name for himself. (Switch, PS4, XBO, Steam)
• Higurashi: When They Cry - New kid Keiichi moves to a rural town in the middle of Japan and makes tons of new friends, except when he learns about a brutal murder that occurred the previous year, his friends start acting strange around him. (8 individual episodes on Steam)
• Umineko: When They Cry - The Ushiromiya family arrive on Rokkenjima island for their annual family conference and to discuss the filthy business of inheritance as the family head looks to be on his last legs. It's only when a storm rolls in stopping them from leaving when the murders start. Set in the same universe as Higurashi but it's not a sequel. (Steam)
• Ever 17: The Out of Infinity - A group of people are trapped inside an underwater amusement park due to a disaster and need to find a way out as the park is estimated to implode in only a few days. (PC)
• The Zero Escape Trilogy - By the same writer as above, 9 people are trapped inside a base and have 9 hours to escape and find the 9th door before they're killed by the mysterious game master called Zero. (DS, Vita, PS4, Switch, Steam)
• Danganronpa: 16 high school students are kidnapped by a animatronic bear and forced to play a death game to escape from the school they're trapped in. To escape they must murder another student and get away with it. If they do that, everyone else dies but they get to leave. (PSP, Vita, Steam, PS4, Switch)
• The House in Fata Morgana: You arrive at a mysterious mansion where a maid greets you as her master and tells you that she's been waiting a long time for you to return. You can't remember who she is so she offers to show you three stories that happened in the past of the house in the hopes that you'll remember who you are. (Steam, PS4, Vita, Switch)
• Fate/stay night: Seven heroic spirits from times past are summoned in the hopes of gaining the ultimate prize: the holy grail - something that can grant any wish imaginable. Shirou Emiya is attacked by a spirit and accidentally summons a heroic spirit called Saber who calls Shirou her master and wants to compete to claim the grail. (PC, Vita - fan translation only. If you go for the Realta Nua version, all H scenes are removed unless you patch them back in)
• Chaos;Head Noah: Shut-in student Takumi just wants to spend all day in his house surrounded by his waifus and playing MMORPGs. Except when he ventures outside one day he comes across a gruesome murder scene and is drawn into a vicious serial killing called the "New Generation Madness" that seems to be getting closer and closer to him. (Steam, Switch)
• Robotics;Notes Elite: 1.048596%, the Steins Gate world line. The world is at peace and the robotics club at Tanegashima High School is about to be disbanded so the club president and her best friend agree to try and gain more members to save it and make a giant robot. At the same time, a conspiracy rears its head which threatens to destroy the world. (Steam, PS4, Switch)
• Chaos;Child: Six years after the New Generation Madness, a newspaper club finds more gruesome copycat murders taking place in Shibuya. The press calls it "The Return of the New Generation Madness". The head of the newspaper club at a high school wants to show off to all the wrong-siders and the police and solve the case before them. You're not required to have read Chaos;Head beforehand, but it does enhance the experience somewhat.(Steam, PS4, Switch)

Make sure you get the uncensor patch which is free. It's not for the faint of heart though!

Contains: rape, gang rape, incest, lolicon, gore, masturbation, drug use, suicide, prostitution.

It's definitely an experience but it was really hard to read at times. Not because it's poorly written, the opposite really. It's really well told and the characters are well developed but from a certain point in the story it just becomes really depressing and I had to take breaks from reading as it was getting me down every time I read it as things just kept getting more fucked up.

Or I can just buy it from a better storefront which won't require patching the good stuff back in. -_- Never ever buy from steam without checking other sites first.

...the wiki summary is pretty brutal. Sounds like something I'd enjoy but my backlog is fucking unstoppable at this point. ;-; But it does remind me of Kara no Shoujo in the sense that things are bleak and only get worse. Though it's not nearly as heavy on the philosophy side.

^The fact that some of those lines are voice acted makes it even better. I can imagine the VAs just laughing before and after reading the lines.

Nah, it's fine. The original novel has a lot of high points and set a lot of things up, but it also has a lot of low points as well. The biggest thing about the original is setting the framework for everything that came after.

Extra and Extella were great.

The history of Fate is something like this.

"I want to make a visual novel about summoning legendary heroes to do battle over the holy grail"

"No that's a stupid idea."

"Okay what if we make King Arthur a girl and you can fuck her?"

"Approved!"

Then they made it expecting it to be within the trash bin next to all the other eroge within a month but it got really popular and then they were like "oh maybe we can actually make something serious out of this"
