Didn't he specifically only say that about SM3? I've heard both.

Also, Sunshine is likely a TV show and Paper Mario is likely a storybook.

The major theory is they're all acting in the main games as if it's a movie, and the kart and sports games are just them hanging out in their leisure time.

This is the whole quote from Miyamoto. It seems more like he's saying he doesn't care about continuity than "all the characters are actors from a lore standpoint"

The example he uses isn't even like that. The Popeye cartoons may always use differentl scenarios but they're never treated as being false.

I hope the Broodals get invited for some go-karting in the future.

I've always thought the mainline games were kinda like movies.

The kart racing, sports, etc... were like celebrity reality-game show events.

And that opens up every Nintendo/guest character and series that makes an appearance to be the same thing.
