Blogfaqs, obviously.

its been a tough week. On tuesday my wife called the ambulance and rushed our son to the emergency room because he had a seizure out of no where. i was at work and got a call from the fire department about what happened. boy i never drove home faster in my life.

apparently he had a fever of 103. we and the docs have no idea why. he was a happy kid that morning, nothing out of the ordinary. my wife said he got sluggish in the afternoon when it happened, but that's his usual nap time so she thought nothing of it. his seizure was only about 30 seconds but i can't imagine witnessing that like my wife did. she's so strong for helping our son.

so since then, our task has to make sure he doesn't get another fever. the next day we just pumped him full of tylenol and motrin. i bought about 5 different thermometers to contantly check his temp. by thursday he was no longer feverish. he's mostly ok but since he couldn't sleep because of the fever and stuff, he's been sleeping a lot. also cuz he's sick probably? like he has no symptoms. no runny nose, no cough. docs tested for covid and flu and RSV and got nothing.

but yeah. apparently super common until the age of 5. so fellow CEparents, just know this is a thing and they'll be fine!

I don't have kids, but when I was a kid, I remember those happening to my cousins.

they were super scary, but I guess my aunt was familiar with them happening, because on the two occasions I saw them take place, she just stripped my cousins to their underwear so that their bodies would cool down.

I was about 7 or 8 when I saw this, so yea, they were under 5 when it happened.

yeah i had no clue. my wife though said one of her cousins had a seizure, so she recognized it.

we just had no clue to look out for a fever you know? if he was miserable and crying all today yeah we'd take his temp. boy was dancing to his favorite songs that morning! its crazy

So sorry to hear. Its a pretty traumatic thing to see. Hopefully it was just an isolated incident- but if not, epilepsy can be pretty well controlled with the right medication.

my fiance is epileptic and hasnt had a seizure in almost a decade
