This past weekend I started feeling really crappy and gradually got a lot worse. By Saturday night/early Sunday morning I had a bad fever and was experiencing non stop chills for hours. It was probably the most sick Ive ever felt in my life. In my mind it was just a flu rather than Covid because Ive had all of my shots and didnt think catching it would effect me so badly. Luckily those really bad effects didnt last too long and I only had to miss a couple days of work. Throughout the rest of this week Ive still had some lingering effects like a stuffy nose and sore throat, as well as loss of appetite but otherwise Ive been able to function normally and assumed the worst of it was over.

Until today I now realize I cant smell anything. Tried blowing my nose multiple times, thinking it was just plugged up still but no matter how hard I try I cant smell anything I put in front of me. So now Im convinced that it was Covid all long; my work never told me I had to get tested so I didnt bother, now I kinda wish I did just to be sure but I feel like its out of my system at this point. Now Im really worried about how long this loss of smell will last because Im already noticing food/drinks not tasting as good and now it seems likely that my loss of appetite is linked to this. Guess Im just going to have to keep living my life without knowing if/when my sense of smell will return =(

Yeh, lost my smell and taste 2 days ago. And I fucking hate it, I hope I get it back soon and dont end up as others who lost it for months or god forbid over a year.

I can take big sniffs of concentrated vinegar and it smells like new shoes or plastic. Doesnt even sting like it used to. And when I taste it I sense sour and sweetness. This really sucks.

Trying to make food more enjoyable with more textures, adding heat, salt, umami and then fat to spread out the tastes on the tongue.

Pretty much no aromatics come through, I mean I had like 5 cloves if garlic in my instant ramen and I only tasted thr sweetness from the garlic.

My smell and taste loss lasted two and a half months.

I think my smell and taste training helped me to recover completely and I believe if I didn't do it then it would have taken longer to recover.

What I did was I would smell the only thing that I could smell at the time which was Listerine. I would smell it for 45 seconds three times a day. I would also rinse my mouth with it for 30 seconds since it was the only thing I could taste.

Next, I tried to figure out what else I could smell which turned out to be eucalyptus. I bought a eucalyptus candle from Bath and Body and would light it up in the living room and then play video games or watch a movie. It was like I was keeping my nose in check by smelling the candle aroma constantly.

More of my smells started coming back. The other thing I could smell was my tea tree mint shampoo. So I started adding it to my 45 seconds smell training along with Listerine.

Then chocolate was the next smell to come back. I could also taste it so I added it to the smell/taste training lineup.

Then my nose could start smelling spices again so I added that to my training. I kept adding more and more stuff and then one day everything just came back even smells I was struggling with like body odor or even bacon smell.

Edit: When I did my taste training with food, I basically just ate my food slowly and enjoyed the taste. There were weird times when I ate like a burger for example and could taste the ketchup only and nothing else like the bun or meat.

I haven't smelled anything since 2001 due to a head injury. I have forgotten what everything smells like.
