It wasn't like he was always kind of arrogant, and finding out he was a God made it worse, it was a shift to the point it almost seemed like he was possessed. I even thought they were going that route because in Hel he didn't seem to remember doing it. It would make sense if he was really insecure, and the Godhood thing gave him an ego boost. However, he was a good kid prior to finding out.
