Gronder 2 is the dumbest mission in the game and basically makes no sense. Like they could have at least made it a Fog of War map or something.

That would've been a much more interesting for sure and would've tied into the "chaos" Edelgard mentioned nicely. Would've certainly made the fight harder too. Maybe a bit too hard if you've got monsters like 60 ATK 40 AS Felix and Dimitri appearing out of nowhere. Still though, the fight itself was still very fun and emotional, just a bit awkward story-wise.

Yeah, it is possible to get through it without letting any of the former students die if you can get to and beat Edelgard + Dimitri quickly. Though it doesn't really have an effect on anything since you never see or hear about those characters again (except for the ones that escape instead of dying like Hubert).

I did a test run first and managed to beat it without killing anyone but Bern and Sylvain who spawns right behind you by having Lysithea warp Byleth and Ingrid to kill the commanders. Bern just seems especially hard to avoid since she's in the middle of the map I've committed to my path though so I'm probably going to take everyone down for EXP and their weapon drops. Actually, I might try going the long way to Hubert and see how things work out there.

Also, Supply Run is definitely the worst quest in the game. Thought it needed Zanado Treasure Fruit so I used save scumming and multiple save files to check to guarantee I'd get some on the next explore only to find out that what she wanted was ZANADO FRUIT after I'd already planted my seeds and saved over my main file. Why are these two different fruits and why are both of them not buyable? Even Boa Fruits and Angelicas are buyable. Ugh, looks like I'll have to skip this quest this month since auxillary battles give more renown and gold and I can do 3 per month even though I could've done it

I don't even bother with those bullshit gathering quests. The rewards are garbage anyway.

Honestly, anytime I'm not doing like an actual challenge run at this point I just NG+, not to necessarily break the game but avoid fishing for professor ranks. So I don't care about the Renown.

Perfect timing for the topic to come up again. I was busy for around a week so I finally managed to get some more progress done today, including doing a genuine run of Blood of Eagle and Lion. The Hubert path tactic worked. After clearing him out the Blue Lions started attacking the imperial army and even the Assassin (Petra's replacement apparently) who was going for me went after them instead. They started annihilating each other while I waited right outside Edelgard's range. Just like the first Gronder field Blue Lions destroyed the Eagles (even if I cleaned up some enemies on the left) and Felix himself one rounded Edelgard with a crit. I wanted the EXP and drops for myself though so I divine pulsed before they started attacking each other and went to attack them myself.

You absolutely can't leave anyone in range of Edelgard (unless they can kill with the counterattack) or Dimitri though. Edelgard kills my tankiest Raphael/Ferdinand with Raging Storm then another Raging Storm and Dimitri just one-shots literally everybody with Atrocity.

Enemies using CA is so rare that I used to regularly forget it. Seeing Edelgard use Raging Storm was such an Oh Shit moment because I immediately knew there I was gonna have to pulse. Watching her chain kill 4 or my people was genuinely hilarious.

It almost makes me wish Maddening gave them more meta classes. Enemy Wyvern Lord Edelgard or Paladin Dimitri would be a nightmare.

tfw your medieval setting has nukes before it gets basic firearms. I actually love it. I quickly stride killed DK to see what the map would be like but it seems like it'd be tough to both get all the enemy drops including the demonic beast armor breaks and treasure and kill DK before he runs away. I think it's possible if I use a bunch of flyers, stride, and Flayn's rescue to keep Nader from proccing DK.

Ingrid and Claude's A+ support was awful jeez. And you had to do two A conversations to unlock it. Both Raphael and Petra are better for the two of them imo.
The game giving Trade Secrets to Assassins is such a troll move. They have more speed than ATK. Not even my Petra can steal from them.

Did Byleth really kill Edelgard like that? I thought I'd at least be given a choice on this route since I assume you'd definitely kill her on the Blue Lion route. Maybe she gets to live on SS? Or she might die on every route besides her own.

Black Eagles suck, so Constance was the only logical choice during my Crimson Flower route.

They did a good job of having the Japanese and English VA's get the same tone with her. And by same tone I mean borderline unhinged.

Something I'm curious about since I'm gearing up to the endgame of this route soon, does the final month before Endgame allow you to have a free Monastery Explore before the final map? Or do you have to give up an auxiliary battle or keep a save file in the monastery if you want to do things like buy more ore or use the sightseer before the final battle? Also, what happens to my storehouse inventory? Should I turn everything into renown at the pagan altar?

The calendar should show you your last possible free weekend. So if you want to hold a save during that weekend you can.

As far as NG+ goes, don't worry about converting items to Renown. You get an insane amount just for beating the game.

Oh, so it's not right on the day of the mission? Since in most months it's best to do Battles before the mission.
I also just don't want my Albinean Mooses and Umbral Steel to go to waste since I stockpiled way more of them than I thought.

I just realized that the random NPCs in the monastery are actually the grown up soldier versions of the students and kids during the academy phase. I was wondering what was up with those grapplers that keep hanging out at the tea area.

Engage day! I still have this game to finish up so I'll be posting updates for myself but I hope you guys enjoy the new game. I've gotten to dubstep city which is such a great contrast with the rest of the game and the series in general. I hope there's crazy stuff like that in Engage.

One thing I'm going to admit is that I actually kind of saw Rhea as a motherly figure so seeing her so vulnerable without her getup on after rescuing her actually made me very uncomfortable. Still wonder how she got captured though. I'm predicting she doesn't get captured on Crimson Flower.

Probably the best writing in FE in years but that's imo. There's also quite a bit of variety with there being four paths(which changes half the game) and three casts of students which make up your main characters per path. I also like that it went back to weapon durability. Despite the school setting and still being FE it isn't as uhh "anime" as Fates and Engage which could be a pro or a con to you. There's full voice acting throughout the game for everyone except the MC who's mostly a silent protag.

I'm at Chapter 25 in Engage right now and I find it worse than Three Houses in every regard except music and the main character actually being a character unlike Byleth.

IDK if these were in other FEs as 3H is the only one I've played, but there are weapon breaker skills that function kind of like the triangle. Like lancebreaker, which you only use with axes, gives you a boost to your hit + avoid chances (and I think crit chances but I might be wrong) when using axes against lance users. It's probably not as impactful as the weapon triangle itself, but it does make a pretty noticeable difference on Maddening.

And yeah, that part about the story is true. It's not so bad in 2 of the 4 paths (Golden Deer + Silver Snow) since those 2 do cover the major stuff, but it is pretty bad in the other 2 (Blue Lions + Crimson Flower) since those 2 just kind of toss a major faction off to the side and doesn't really give you a good resolution as to what happens with them.

Holy shit, Rhea just tanked a bunch of these magic nukes by herself! How did the empire catch her again? Hanneman talks about Lord Arundel still being alive so I thought he was actually Thales in disguise but I guess not. For how long he stayed alive and the feats he did in cutscenes, Thales went down pretty easily lol.

Get fucked Nemesis. Was not expecting him to be so tanky when I saw he was just an ordinary man and not like giant monster or whatever. I thought he'd have been working for TWSITD but he was being locked up by them too huh? Why does he give so much exp tho. Gives a full level up that's completely useless lol

This is probably my #1 complaint about the game aside from the reused maps. Each route really makes you feel like you're missing something, with Edelgard's being the worst offender. Really makes me wish they designed the game with the route split at the beginning of the game and not the middle.

God-shattering Star fades out

ngl it was quite a bit tamer than I expected. The instruments weren't as strong as Twilight of the Gods which I heard someone say God Shattering Star was an evolution of. However, I heard Gametal's cover of God Shattering Star and that was crazy! This song definitely fits with strong instrumentation more imo.
Also gotta give props for Claude's friendship speech which while cheesy on paper works really well with the scene.

Now that I've beaten Verdant Wind I'm going to go to my Crimson Flower file from awhile back. I'll have to remind myself all the stuff I did on that file though. Also I take back what I said about God Shattering Star being tame. It's now stuck in my mind.

God-Shattering Star not having a remix in Three Hopes borders on a war crime. The remixes in that game were so good.

Melody of Clarity is great, though.

You have a guard adjutant with Lorenz. The swordsmaster still doubles you, but guard adjutants will always keep the 2nd attack from being able to kill you (the 2nd attack will leave you at 1 HP if it would have killed normally).

Makes them OP on Vengeance users.

Guard adjutants are great for easy set up of any low HP build. And honestly just kinda nuts in general. Far and away the best adjutant and one of the few real advantages that ground units have over flyers.

Huh, I swear I had a guard adjutant on other characters like Flayn before and still had them get doubled.
Speaking of Three Hopes, I actually did load it up just to see what it'd be like... and I have no idea what I'm doing lol. I just ended up spamming X. It actually worked too since I played as Claude and Kostas was trapped in a stunlock by all the falling arrows. I got an S rank even though I spent half the time running around like a headless chicken. Maybe I should go up to Hard mode? I heard that just makes everything too tedious though. I also could never pull off a perfect guard with Claude like I could with the others, so I assume it's meant to be like that.
