It wasn't the death of 2D animation because it was bad, it was the death of 2D animation because Disney deliberately sabotaged it because they wanted to move to 3D. They had to make it because of a deal they made with the director but they didn't want to because they were just awful people trying to create an excuse to not make 2D movies. --- My sister's dog bit a hole in my Super Mario Land cartridge. It wasn't until Tangled and then Frozen that Disney Animations figured themselves out. Disney were in a really weird place in the 2000s and often bounced between massive success and huge bombs. They hadn't quite figures themselves out. The specific problem with these movies is that animated action-adventure movies like it just aren't really that popular.
