I use it sometimes and have schizophrenia... Sometimes it feels like it applies when it comes to stuff like communication/social, but I know it's wrong

my sister in law has williams syndrome (capability wise its similar to down syndrome but without the facial structure), she calls all people lower functioning than her the r word and actively avoids them in group settings
we have no clue where she picked it up bc everyone in the family is hardcore anti-r word

My thing is just the understanding that nobody knows your entire life online, so it makes sense you can do things in your face to face circles that you can't online. Obviously there's still limits you should uphold even with people who know you, but it's definitely way looser feeling than when online.

Half this board (the half that doesn't dislike me already :3) would probably not like me if they got out of context snippets from my text logs, discord logs & personal conversations. But they might laugh along if they were there for the full context. Which is reasonable to an extent. Though, Im personally not gonna judge others from what they do in their circles unless it's dramatic and no context can fix it.

I don't make a habit of using slurs (sometimes I do if it's for one the races I am >_>), but I do make very insensitive jokes when I know it's not personal to the people on the room. You can't know that when online. Everyone's in the room.

In high school we had a friend in our class that would come to all of our baseball games. He had downs but was highly functional with slight speech issues, but he was such a positive spirit and so we loved having him around.

We'd be in the dugout, someone would say something stupid and he would call them the r-word, knowing full well the irony of the situation and awfulness of the phrase, but he would crack up at his own usage, and so did we.

Hope he's doing well.
