Back in the 90s and 00s, movies were actually good. Now they are pretty much all trash. Haven't seen a good new movie in over a decade.

I take that back, mad max fury road was good. Thats the last good one I've seen.

Saw the tarantino thread after I made this post. Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

This isn't a troll or joke topic. Obviously I don't mean literally ALL, but the vast majority of movies are trash.

All the ideas have been thought up and taken.

It's hard to make a movie without being called its ripping off ideas of an existing story.

Like Avatar is pretty much pocahontas.
And pretty much all the old Disney cartoons were taken from folklore.

Some weekends. Monday and Thursday are the most common days for me. The theater is 2 minutes away, my fiance doesn't get home until 8:30 on those days, and I have AMC A-list ($23 a month for almost unlimited movies). I just go by myself. If she is interested in the movie (like a quarter of them), we go together on the weekend.

Wow that sounds pretty nice actually. The closest theater to me is like 30-40 minutes away, so I usually only go to a movie if someone is going with me.

My thoughts exactly. Some people just lose the ability to be entertained as they get older/jaded and then claim that things like movies and videogames are no longer any good. I actually feel bad for them.

Also, my comment about ignorance about things like Banshees of Inisherin sounds elitist. The truth is that it is frustrating how the movie didn't seem to be marketed at all. It is both moving and hilarious. Same director as In Bruges and Three Billboards. Definitely the best recent film that almost no one has heard of. It will get a ton of nominations though. Colin Farrell will finally get a nomination for it for sure.

Tbf, most people I watch movies with like making fun of/complaining with me.

Movies weren't good in the 00s either. 80s and 90s were the best we had to offer.

I agree with about everything Chris gore says about film.

I saw The Banshees of Inisherin a week ago. Absolutely loved it.

The other two films I saw this year that were released in 2022 were Barbarian and Prey. I enjoyed both of those as well. So no, movies are not dead.

A lot of miserable people lol

Kind of over superhero/comic movies and remakes. Thats like 90% of what I see advertised, so its easy to tune out and brush off movies altogether.

I feel the same but it's my fault, I've sat through way to many bad films. My problem is I want to give new movies a fair chance but I've always known if a movie would be good 10mins in and usually they're not but I sit through them hoping they'll get better.

I've stopped watching big budget films all together now and oy go if a groups of friends or the gf want to watch anything.

This is just from like ~2010 onwards and is based on what I can remember in this particular moment. Chances are I erroneously forgot tons of great movies I saw, and I intentionally omitted a lot of box offices successes. A decent bit of these got serious Oscars traction but I don't take the oscars seriously as an institution and hate a good number of films they've propped up

If you believe film is "worse" or some dumb shit I don't know what to tell you. There's a lot of interesting stuff out there that's well written/directed/acted. I'd definitely qualify some successful films in this category - I liked both GotG, Infinity War, Joker, etc, but the solution to a lot of popular movies being drivel is to actually seek movies out lol

basically I think people insisting 90% of movies now are "Bad"

A: Are not remembering the sheer extent of bad garbage from decades passed

or,

B: Might have a political agenda

or,

C: Not actively seeking films out, deriding or not considering any that got critical adoration, etc.

One thing Ive noticed about people arguing online is they will always insert the best of what their arguing for vs. the worst of what they're arguing against. It's not just media, they do it with people too. "I'm better than this person because my best traits are better than their worst traits.". It's why it's pointless to make vague statements and turn them onto vague arguments. You gotta be super bored.

Forgot to respond to this earlier lol. I'm not in the middle of nowhere, I live in Los Angeles, California. We just have lots of traffic. With absolutely no traffic at all, it's a 20 minute drive to the theater.

Los Angeles is the only city I have visited that I actually disliked. And simply because you have to drive forever to get anywhere.

Also, just saw Glass Onion. Recommended.
