We were all the same age.
Neighbors kids:
-Sheltered from certain shows and movies (weren't allowed to watch WWF or the simpsons)
-Dad was rich, got them pretty much any gifts they wanted. They had pool tables, a whole gaming setup with projector, xbox, gaming chair, tons of games, etc, high end computer
-Parents were overbearing, always told them what to do, practically did their homework
-Always went on extravagant vacations, fancy restaurants, international vacations
-The oldest daughter ended up being successful, the rest didnt go to college or dropped out, are lazy, and do drugs

My siblings and I:
-Never sheltered, could watch anything we wanted, hang out with whomever. Dad even watched simpsons and WWF with us.
-Never got all the things we wanted, but did get some, it would be saved for special occasions like birthdays or we really had to work to get it like do a bunch of chores and shit
-Parents were hands-off with school, but CONSTANTLY told us about how their only expectation was that we worked hard and tried our best, didn't matter what grades we got
-Never went on vacations, never ate out, parents were frugal solidly middle class
-All of us siblings are highly successful, and none of us did drugs, other than occasional weed in college.

I just think about all these things now that I have small kids, and just thinking about what my own style is going to be and how to not fuck it up.
