Anything worth doing in the prepatch that you'll miss if you don't play it now?

unless you make a dragon and see their opening story

there are three parts of pre-patch. well kinda four.

1:The new talent systems are live. We're now back to a "one point per level" variety of talent trees instead of the dumb "every 10-15 levels you get to choose one of three talents from a row!"

2: the Drak'thyr Evokers are now playable IF you've purchased DF. They start at lvl 58 and have a pretty neat questing story that sets up WHY players are traveling to the dragon isles.

3: the Legacy of Tyr new version of Uldaman is playable, and is a pretty fun dungeon with some neat lore books.

4: For the rest of pre-patch there are "Elemental Storms" in Badlands, Un'goro, and Northern Barrens. It's just big elemental bosses and slightly empowered mobs, great for leveling alts, and the currency can be used for catch up gear along with a few limited time bonuses

So nothing like the mount from the BFA event? More like the Shadowlands one where you could just get a few transmog items or something?

there's a pet, and oddly enough an heirloom trinket. it's a pretty nice one so if you level alts it's worth getting. but imo not worth rushing to resub if you aren't in a hurry otherwise.

I leveled all my alts up for Legion's class calls, so I'm not too concerned with heirlooms.

As someone who played in the DF beta, this expansion is going to be pretty fucking nice to play. The game is moving in a much better direction now.

I was massively addicted to WoW when It came out (2004-2008) to the point that I was afraid to touch it for 10 years but when I finally decided to try it out again in 2018 I really enjoyed it as a casual player. I played some of my old characters up through the Legion content (the class stuff was great in that expansion) and I played the BFA story stuff on a horde and alliance character and played the content that was cool and fun to me.

I played some shadowlands (again as a casual player by WoW standards) and enjoyed that too.

I will try Dragonflight too. I know I won't get addicted and I will probably lose interest as soon as I hit the big grinding treadmill but the game is still fun.

Shadowlands was awful overall but the covenant abilities were fun. The story was the worst in WoW history. BFA sucked because of the borrowed power systems. The story was meh but the dungeons were really solid imo.

Dragonflight has a better story, zero borrowed power, and the talent tree system is so much better after the overhaul.

That's the beauty of it! There isn't a big grinding treadmill this time. The devs want you to be able to complete your character this time. They want you to get full BiS and be able to hop on your alt. The game hasn't been like that since WoD, although the end of Legion had this as well as artifact power become useless.

Legion was alright with it from what I remember. You could always dump more AP into your weapon, but there was still a full skill tree and all it would do was incrementally increase your stats.

Dragonflight does look pretty fun. Soar is already a blast, so I can only imagine how good dragon riding is. I like the new talent systems too, feels like you get more buttons back on most classes. Prepatch kinda sucks imo, but xpac comes out Tuesday so now isn't a bad time to lvl up an evoker and or have a different character ready to go.

I agree with most of what you said but you have to realize vanilla and even Burning Crusade didn't really have stories in the way you'd judge them by more recent content they were just resting on the laurels of Warcraft 3 and WC:3 frozen throne to provide all of the backround.

Before Wrath of the Lich King it was basically "remember those guys from the earlier games that actually had voice acting and actual stories!?"

Everything you just said is right and it was still better than Shadowlands. Shadowlands' storyline is utter fucking garbage from top to bottom.

WoW expansions are generally fine at launch. The issues dont surface until a little bit later on. WoW is still good from time to time but I will never sink time into it again like I used to. FF14 has taken that place in my heart

I remember the fun I had, the connection with my character (which they TORE AWAY), and it's a great game to play with my friends.

But, yeah, don't think I'm making the same mistake a third time... I think...

At least in vanilla and TBC there would be mini storylines in the zones while you were questing. And then when you did the UBRS huge ass quest chain there was a cohesive storyline. Shadowlands was offensively bad
