There is no demand for it. They tested the water with Onimusha remastered a while back and no one bought it so the franchise is as good as dead.

Yeah. The Remaster didn't have enough content to make it worth what they were asking for. I think I paid $4-6

Team Ninja (Nioh, DoA, Ninja Gaiden) is coming out with a new game next year called Wo-Long: Fallen Dynasty which is sure to capture some of the magic of Onimusha, as Nioh plainly did before it. Although id be willing to bank on Wo-Long being more along the lines of Elden Ring and Ghost of Tsushima, as a kind of Dark Souls to their Demons Souls (Nioh) or at worst as a relevant experiment or a solo title. I think I even read something about Wo-Long being an open world style dungeon crawler adventure. If youre looking for a big name samurai/shinobi game, this is it. Im a little worried myself that it will present itself or is presenting itself as a direct competitor to From games though.

Dragons Dogma 2 is also happening.

Back in the day, the Onimusha series was known for being cinematic, difficult, and something between Resident Evil vs Dynasty Warriors. I made a thread awhile ago and came to the conclusion that I might greatly enjoy a Yoshimitsu game styled after stuff like this, Tenchu, etc. I think because of Froms earlier stuff like Kuon, Ninja Blade, Yoshitsune, etc, and similarities between Souls vs like Monster Hunter or Legend of Zelda, that the Souls series very much has the punch that early Castlevania and the Onimusha games had, for instance, with a similar culture and methodical thing going on for them. Idk if Id hate to see Onimusha get the GoW or DMC treatment tho. Anyway, Ive played a decent amount of these kinds of games, and sat myself through a ton of debates about Niohs combat system, am still invested in Metal Gear Rising lol, etc. Basically, Im not sure where a remake would really stand nowadays. Stranger of Paradise was pretty successful tho, so idk

I wonder if they could do like an opposite of Sekiro thing, where the player goes around hacking smaller mobs for fun, and the bosses are spongy, but then you basically just get Mibu Village and Sunken Valley hahaha

Sekiro is the pinnacle of samurai and ninja games so far, imo, by a wide wide margin. It almost invalidates the old way (hack n slash, beat em up) of doing things for the most part. If anyone has played a better katana/ninja game, Im all ears.

idk I havent played Onimusha in a long time. Maybe my opinion will drastically change once I sat down and played it again. Had a ton of fun with Kuon a few years back. Maybe they could slightly restyle it based on that? Idk anyway

These are my thoughts on Onimusha remake

Oddly enough Dawn of Dreams became my favorite. Really liked the rpg style they went through on that. And the music was amazing

For me it's a Capcom thing. People tend to hate when they master the gameplay depth and give loads of content but neglect other aspects some. Cause this happened again with RE when they got to 6. They build up to this giant game with a crazy amount of content and depth in gameplay, but it becomes the most hated because it didn't take the rest serious enough. If you're mostly into the gameplay, it's a buffet.
