For the last 8 years at my company i got a very nice Christmas bonus and a raise for being the top performer. Last year i got 6 grand and a raise this year i got 6 grand again but no raise was once again the top performer in the company. I asked for a raise amd got denied my boss even said I was being ungrateful what do you think?

Some people don't receive any kind of a bonus (or a raise).

Take a 6 grand bonus as an absolute win. That's a great bonus.

Anyone without an annual raise is actually getting an annual pay deduction. Everyone needs to get a bare minimum sort of raise to offset inflation, cost of living increases etc. and then above that raise there should be more which would be your actual raise. Bonuses are good as well but not a replacement for raises

It sounds decent to me. Although he has set a sort of precedent there he didn't quite hold up to. How often have you gotten raises in the past?

at my workplace they've actually separated the two. the annual bump is called an incremental increase and it's just based on time with the company, not performance. then the actual raises are performance based. that said, each one is 50 cents so you just go up a dollar a year basically but that's not too bad compared to a lot of places so we're good with it, we also get bonuses/etc

Well most companies have a bad outlook for next year so maybe theyre trying to reign in costs to whether the storm? You would know your bosses. The bonus does sound pretty damn good.
