I mean, they want naive young minds that are easier to influence into making a decision that could ruin their lives...or be less profitable than if they just got a job or went to community College.

*18 year olds

Creepy the same way people get scared of bugs?
Don't you mean like deplorable or shameful or underhanded or something?

presumably tc is deliberately using language that is often used for predatory sexual behaviors with the intent of drawing a comparison between the military and the harvey weinsteins of the world.

The military markets to teenagers, particularly those in poorer school districts, because the armed services need a large population, and the sooner young people join, the more likely they are to stay and build a career.
According to the government, 184,000 personnel must be recruited into the Armed Forces each year to replace those who complete their commitment or retire.

Younger than 18. These guys post up at highschools, preying on 15-17 year olds to enlist once they graduate. They come set up a pull-up bar and have challenges and stuff. They send these roided up dudes to make it look really cool like that could be you if you join. If you show a little bit of interest they never stop bugging you. I told one of em I was interested only if they paid for my college and graduate school, and he literally called me like once a month just to check in and see if I was interested and stuff. Eventually I told him to fuck off.

I took the ASVAB in high school just to get out of three hours' worth of classes, scored a 98 or 99, and didn't stop getting emails and shit from recrooters until I was most of the way through college.

Yeah, you'd have a pick of any MOS in any branch lmao

Doesn't mean you'd enjoy it but you could literally pick any entry level job and you'd never have to worry about being restricted from opportunities based on your line scores.

Yep. Off the top of my head I've known people who's jobs in the military included; an engineer, infantry, programmer, a cook, an airplane mechanic, running the print shop on base, and dispatch/communications for an airforce base.

And of that one infantry member, I had more guns pointed at me delivering pizzas than he did on deployment.

It's basic military strategy.

"Get 'em while young in impressionable."

Alot easier to glam up military life outside mom/dad's house when you still an optimistic adolescent.

Yeah, they were after me to sign a contract when I was 17.

But I was always repelled by uniformity and macho BS.

In any case, to answer the question in the OP, the Empire doesnt maintain and expand itself. It needs a constant supply of fresh bodies to do so. In that way, its the same as capitalism.

I remember a recruiter coming to my house when I was in high school to try and get me to join. They were in my high school trying to recruit people to join when they were 18. ROTC was formed just to start them early. I remember ROTC at my school would sometimes do a performance at assemblys to show their discipline as a way to promote.

Preying on young people to go die, often needlessly, and then throwing them out on the streets with trauma afterwards. Forgotten and ignored.

If only more parents knew that they can opt their kids out of recruitment.

My older child starts high school next year, I am going to submit a letter to keep my kids info out of the hands of recruiters.

edit, once the kid turns 18, they have to submit a letter themselves to keep their info away from recruiters.

That's not the Navy's recruitment ad. This is:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmGuy0jievs

AAAAaaaaand... in the Navy, you get to be called Seaman.

---

But more seriously, the military is a pretty good deal. You get your college tuition paid for. You get a GI bill for more college after you get out.

And you are trained to do a job that, if you aren't in the infantry or armor, has civilian world applications. So there's no need for unpaid internships.

Plus, you are paid for all that... and you have free medical care. Mostly crap medical care, but for a young person that doesn't need much of it, it's better than the civilian alternative.

I took it as SAT / ACT practice and scored a 99. I briefly toyed with the idea of doing college ROTC for free college and stipend, but couldnt find an area of concentration that sounded like what I wanted to do.

I wish I had done that and maybe put 20 years in.
