Yet honestly it's literally the most poignant time for parallels to modern day.

Another thing Andor does exceedingly well is presenting the fascist effects of the Empire on people living in the galaxy.

Like the last thirty years have been turning what should be a scary empire into stormtroopers dancing on stage at Disney. Andor seeks to walk that back, and it actually makes the Empire not only scary but also depressing and frustrating.

i dont watch space wizard scifantasies for modern day parallels tho
empire is boring

I do find it particularly weird / funny how Andor is the bridge too far for 'former' Star Wars fans to the point where they're adamantly refusing to give it a shot. Like Obi-Wan or BoBF just happened to be the last hole on their 'SW has betrayed me' punch card.

Rogue One was really good but Andor himself was the most boring character and could easily be interchanged with someone else. Also this series seems to have no Jedi, no laser swords , no Vadar. Sounds like a non event.
Convince me to watch this after the complete desecration of Boba Fett character, Luke Skywalker in Last Jedi, bait and switch of Obi Wan.

Umm...by telling them that it's actually pretty good, and they as rational people saying 'okay, well, I guess I'll give it a shot?'

Yeesh, some people really do act like the Star Wars franchise killed their father, burned down their village, and kicked their puppy. But of course this is the same fandom out of which once sprang the statement 'Jar-Jar raped my childhood,' so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

"rational" people can also choose not to check it out and be like "hey that show might be pretty good, i don't know!" it's totally OK not to try every entry in a franchise. What you describe sounds more like a consoomer than a "rational" member of society.

im kinda in this boat. just because something is "Star Wars" doesn't make it interesting to me. at least not anymore. and i don't need to have every little detail of the OT explained with a series-long origin story. not every character needs a deep backstory completely spelled out -- a big part of what made the OT fun was the mystery surrounding much of it.

make original content that is compelling on it's own instead instead of banking on name recognition and series fandom. we don't need six thousand pieces of Star Wars or Lord of the Rings media. give me new ideas and universes instead.

that said, if the show is actually good, and not just "good for Star Wars", i might watch it eventually. i'm just so overwhelmed with TV content these days, it's so hard to keep up and watch it all.

Its just genuinely good sci-fi tv with the high budget and production values of Star Wars

you could come into this with no knowledge of anything Star Wars and I think you could enjoy it. It doesnt desecrate any beloved characters, its not loaded with winks and nods to other films/shows, and it tells a story that hasnt really been told before within the universe

its also more of an ensemble thing than anything in the Star Wars canon at this point. despite being called Andor, there are several characters that get near equal screen time each week with their own subplots and motivations

I also think its the first time the political aspect of the series has been made interesting, with one of those characters being a good senator who is navigating the takeover over of the empire

the specific cool things that make the show so exciting are spoilers which Id rather not expand upon. Episode 10 had one of the best sequences in the history of the series imo

Yeah, one of the keys things that stood out for me while watching thus far was that the 16-year-old me still trapped in the dark recesses of my brain was constantly screaming out 'why the fucking FUCK am I supposed to care about Mon Mothma and her stupid family troubles and her boring-ass political maneuvering?!' But the late-thirties me genuinely does find myself getting engrossed in it. The dialogue - particularly among the Imperial bureaucrats - is really sharp, and not just 'sharp for SW.'

It's a show about living under and/or with fascism.

That's all I think needs to be said about it honestly. It's not a typical Star Wars thing where you have a bunch of rebels shooting or slicing stormtroopers to save the day. It shows what life looks like living under the empire in Star Wars in a more in-depth way and from a wider variety of perspectives than depicted in this universe before.

If the concept of that sounds boring to you then it's not for you.

Yeah, thats what I mean when I say its Star Wars that feels like its for adults

it tells stories that people who just want lightsaber battles might not be interested in, but are compelling all the same

Have you legit never heard of the expression "death by a thousand cuts", bro? I'm just saying that so many sub par/bland projects all accumulated to me just plain not giving a shit about Star Wars anymore, it's no different than someone just gradually losing interest in a video game series or book series after numerous entries they find disappointing. You'll need a hard sell to reel uninterested people back in, and Andor just ain't doing a good enough job with the pitch for me, what do you want me to say.

yea
thats my thing. empire/rebel conflict and skywalker saga interquels just hold literally no appeal to me. i dont have anything against the ST or the PT, and tbh i don't even really care that much for the OT. my interest in SW has been almost exclusively through the EU, and mostly through the old republic era (not KOTOR, which is kinda ass imo).

i think star wars as a setting is infinitely cool, and it's prolly my 2nd fave scifi/scifantasy series of all time, but tbh the films/tv series just dont really do anything for me (outside of mando), and the skywalker saga empire conflict is just not a plot i find narratively compelling anymore, regardless of how many threads they wanna tug at.

i wanna see dirty politics on alderaan, hutt cartels and the criminal underworld on nar shaddaa, bamf sith lord rivalries on korriban. give me a series about tulak hord or ajunta pall or the hundred year darkness. no more rebel shit. pls.

I'm sorry it isn't the answer Cyric or the topic creator wanted to hear. I did not feel like I was being "butthurt" by simply stating my honest thoughts. If you guys want an echo chamber go ahead and have it. There are several legitimate reasons why people do not care to check out this show and in a matter of taste they are entirely valid. I wish no one in this topic ill will. I've said my piece. I never gave "excuses." Sorry for distrupting this topic.

At any rate, to the people flat-out demanding that those of us who like Andor convince them to open their minds to it, well, it's already been confirmed for a second season, and given what we know from Rogue One, there's only so far they can stretch this character's backstory, so...we're not particularly desperate to sell you on the show, because your support or lack thereof will have little to no effect on its outcome.

honestly I think based on your description youd probably enjoy this.

because its not really about the rebellion, at least so far. Its about the things that lead the rebellion, people being oppressed by the empire until they decide they have to fight back

its more about petty criminals and espionage and political drama than rebels vs empire

i cant make you watch it ofc but I think youd be surprised

Meh.

I'm desperate for people to watch Andor not because of the show itself, but because its numbers relative to other SW shows will influence what kind of content we get in the future. If Andor does well, Star Wars might try to be good again. If Andor does badly, Disney will double down on nostalgia, glow sticks, and goofy baddies.

It's like they wrote a great story with intresting characters and just placed it in the starwars universe. I miss watching shows that the show runners take seriously without pandering and shoving in fan service.

With the lack of quality shows and films I'm not rushing to finish the show but it's a great recommendation.
