What are they going to do? Fire me when they are hemorrhaging employees and I'm one of the few people who doesn't suck at their job.

I've never encountered "blackout dates" for employees before, but from the context, I'm guessing it's specific days that you aren't allowed to take a vacation day on?

It makes sense from a business standpoint, to want all hands on deck for days that are predicted to be incredibly busy. I'm sure the employees hate it though. I know I hated working retail because I had to work on holidays

Certain places of employment do so well that all they have left to do is turn their guns on their employees.

Or employers value people who actually show up. Could be either one.

If you're a Public Accountant, busy season are always a black out dates. Great thing is that after busy season your schedule frees up drastically.

Showing up is meaningless. I'd rather have a 100% productive employee show up 50% of the time over a 90% productive employee showing up 100% of the time.

Firing someone who is fully productive simply because they aren't showing up is poor judgment.
