Im interested in a quicksilver product, but Im not sure about the logo, and wearing or representing the brand.

Anyway, do they use the skeleton surfer as a mascot? Or are there other themes Quicksilver explores? I understand the company has probably changed a lot, so trying to enjoy a Quicksilver retro item in full is maybe ironic? Idk. I see they partnered with Stranger Things for some retro wear and the company was founded in 1969, so maybe not? I went ahead with my purchase and want to fully enjoy my new belonging, but Im just trying to understand the culture there haha. I guess its nebulous counter-culture stuff? The wave, Australia, California, skateboarding, idk

looks to me like it may have been based on the balance of yin & yang, or complex relationships between forces (big blank objects vs small details and lines and colors, for example). The boats are probably the last thing you spot, and the fishermen who made their living off the sea from the town are rocked by a great tidal wave that destroyed that very town which continued to fish in that very sea even after the wave destroyed it and they rebuilt. The wave spirals and flows, but Mt Fuji in the background remains upright and solid, orderly maybe. The clouds are discreet. The sun hangs in the background and creates the light of the sky or whatever haha. Theres a ton of detail put into the wave which is something normally blank or devoid of attention in many paintings. The froth seems to pop off the paint. Lots of love went into this and its possible the artist redesigned it many times and used it to hone his hand for other or any other works. Its very ahead of its time or hard to place and heavily stylized and is an instant hit with many people who wonder about its meaning or are surprised to find Mt Fuji which looks like a wave at first glance, and its so recognizable, and etc. Lots to be said about this

Correction: the white dot may be meant to align with the mountain and the black dot with the peak of the wave, perhaps signifying a setting sun

or the cloud and the lesser wave

or invert yin and yang

theres probably more than a couple different ways you could view that which is also cool

the clouds appear to be covering the sun and the town is visually absent

the people on the boats dressed all in blue may also blend in with the illusion of the ocean

its possible to confuse the ocean with mountains too, or to view the froth and foam of the waves as snow. The presence of the painting is awesome, vs what is visually present and what is directly implied and indirectly implied by the painting.

*edit: the detail of the water, those little bubbles and the way it ripples up to the top of the wave and becomes those little smaller waves at the peak as it crashes into itself and I can almost visualize it churning and move across the sea. Love the boats too, the line work on the one on the left. Could talk about this painting for awhile apparently lol

Quiksilver kinda had its day already, but their footwear brand DC Shoes seems to be going strong.

Interestingly, I think Quicksilver (mercury) is more likely something youd find inside Mt Fuji in a mine hahaha, than the ocean, which is imo the logical first impression of Quicksilver vs Wave Off Kanagawa as far as casual athletic gear goes and theres some amusement to be had in trying to comprehend the brand name vs the logo and whatnot from that perspective but I still dont know anything about the company and culture hahahaha

should make you think of T1000 or X-Men or something, right? Anyway

not that it matters lol But on that note, logos haha and brand image ugh another topic for anether day
