It's having to play a lot by Google's ruleset and having numerous widely complex dependencies that only very small portion of the devs will have any idea to understand its full interactions with even a small part of the app. Changing one thing without understanding the overall scope, which btw doesn't take a few days like Elon seems to think, could feasibly break the entire app, though there are a bunch of things in place that tries to prevent this. You're not even supposed to be able to merge your branches to any branches remotely near production without long code review from your superiors, let alone a bunch of test cases in place that would stop the basic to intermediate errors. The fact, though, that Elon was able to even implement some of his dumbass ideas immediately, probably meant that the developmental cycle was pretty stable and flexible. They probably do have problems that are far less surface level that they work on on a daily basis that contribute to Elon's complaint about the app being "slow," but generally most of those delays come from people as egomaniacal as Elon trying to implement everything they've heard from some backwater conference. As to them letting Elon break shit, they're 100% doing it on purpose. They probably bypassed most of their test cases to stop Elon from throwing a fit, and it broke things, as it should. I have to wonder if Elon even knows how to read Java, even though anybody worth a damn in this type of industry should. But if they're using Kotlin, Elon 100% does not know how to read that shit lmao.
