I'll answer as best I can. Any names or locations used are obviously made up for privacy reasons. Mental health is a joke here and it's 2 months before I can be seen and I need to get some of this dark shit out.

I oversee group homes for adults with mental illness and/or substance abuse issues. The residents can do as they like (within reason) and are free to come and go as they please but obviously there are consequences at a certain point.

Tonight's crisis was one of the residents reported that their roommate confided in them that they got high at someone's house and then assaulted. Talked to them and they eventually confirmed it. I'm currently trying to coach them into reporting it (which I will need to do anyway if they don't). Had to throw out "if you're afraid of reporting it because you'll go back to jail for using (parole violation), thats the least of my concerns here and nothing has been documented yet. So there's time to get your story straight if you hear what I'm saying".

No. The victim was hesitant to report and denied they were assaulted initially. I suspect because they disclosed they had used before being assaulted. I'm telling them if that's the barrier, nothing has been documented yet. So there's no reason to disclose that they used, this may be the wake up call that gets them clean finally whereas jail would teach them nothing. My #1 concern right now is seeing the POS that did this to them be held accountable.

it definitely doesn't sound AS bad when you put it like that, but jesus christ, what a terrible system. i'm sure this person has already has a billion "wake up calls" it's a fucking addiction not a choice and they have to take what seems like a huge risk for the crime of being a victim.

There's a difference between lying and leaving out unnecessary information. Disclosing that they used prior to being assaulted benefits nobody.

It's constant walking on eggshells and trying to predict how something can fall apart or get fucked up on a technicality. Plus trying to predict how the residents will react. I'm going to have to talk to the roommate eventually, they introduced this person to the rapist and honestly knew damn well he was a POS. So they have a talking coming but not right now because I don't want to send them into crisis after I point out and drill home this is partially on them.
