Many times I see people complain about whataboutism, but complaining about has been used as a tool for those in power to silence others and to get away with horrible things. For example the whataboutism that is brought up many times. Russa/USSR bringing up the US track record with human rights with in the US. The people who complain about whataboutism, however if you are one of those people being hurt by the US policy you can look at it and say yeah they are right. That doesn't mean you let the USSR off the hook. Just say looks at the whole situation. This idea of not using whataboutism has been use to justify so much ill treatment.
