Well?

About two years. I felt trapped and afraid to leave.

My current one is my first. We started talking back in January and started dating in March. Shes immunocompromised and can barely eat anything, so we dont do do a damned thing.

And were both having the time of our lives.

And we both speak of this as something thats going to last forever.

it was long-distance, though, and I checked out a bit before then, but because it was long-distance, I held out for a bit since I had the luxury of doing so and I didn't want to hurt her.

Im 35, she turns 39 next month. When we started talking, I hadnt even been out for a whole month.

Been over 5 years. Its been a long time I dont know exactly how long. But definitely the last choice

Six and a half years currently and going strong. Debating on tying the knot.

It's my first relationship this year, we've had about 9 months together.

I've never been allowed far enough into someone's life to be considered "in a relationship" with them.

Comes with the territory of being an objectively unloveable moster and waste of life.

~4 months, shortly after college. It wasn't exactly a rollercoaster ride, just came and went.

My last relationship lasted 10 years. Finally started dating again this year and it's going extremely well.

Over 20 and still going

2 1/2 years

January will be 17 years since I met my wife.

15 years. Never doing that again, it's not worth it at all impo. At least not for me.

5 years with first marriage and currently 5 years with 2nd marriage.

I've been in my current one for two years.

As time passes though I do wonder if we will actually stay together like we had thought for the first year. Given that I live with her, a breakup would be a disaster.

I've only had one relationship.

Ten years.

She cheated and decided that she wanted to go out to be a drug-using, alcoholic party girl because I "wasted her 20s."

In all fairness, I am a boring fuddy-duddy. I don't want to hit up the bars and clubs every week. I kinda just want to enjoy my quiet, peaceful life.

Forever and day. Will it never end!?

I guess I could explain why I think my relationship went so quickly. There were a few mutual factors:

1) Trust
I consciously decided to be up front and honest with her from the get-go, and found her to be a willing partner. We know, at least in generalities, what were up to, what we want from the relationship, and how we feel, even if its negative or difficult. Like, the day we first met, I told her I was nervous about it and she told me she was too.

2) Affirmation and Understanding
Im trans, and I was fresh from the closet, but this woman affirmed me from day one as easily as she breathed. And I had to be accepting of her limitations, understand that sometimes her body wont let her do what she wants to. And I also had to accept that shes poly which allows me to figure that out for myself. When we got into an argument over whether existing in the closet was traumatic for me, I thought our relationship was dead.

3) Humility
But she was apologetic from the jump. She accepted me taking space, and took that time to reach out to a friend who helped her to understand why I had been so offended. She gave me the most thorough, thoughtful, and genuine apology Ive ever received in my life. It was such a mature and stand-up thing for her to take responsibility for what she said and educate herself. And me? Well, I get frustrated with her sometimes, but I just remind myself this woman has a daughter and has managed to survive a global pandemic despite the fact shes at high risk. When it comes to her safety and survival, she just knows better than my stupid ass.

4) Openness
We first discussed precisely what our relationship was two months in, when I was bringing her to a family picnic. She rejected the girlfriend label at that time, but added, Dont get me wrong, were definitely, like, dating. I didnt use the label until she was okay with it. It allowed us to know what we needed and wanted, and to more freely look towards and ponder the future. And to discuss what we saw and what misgivings we had.

5) Humor and Kindness
We spend most of our time together talking, laughing, and complimenting one another. Its incredibly positive, just all-around.

If I had met her a year earlier, we would never have clicked like this, because I hated myself still. But now, I think Im pretty great! And it makes loving others so much more natural.

Our challenge now is stay together until we can actually be partners. (Probably 2-4 years.)
And *my* challenge is to get her to see shes worthy even if she doesnt get any better, health-wise. Because I just want to be her girl.
