It's time for tipping to end

We need to be like Japan and find tips to be offensive to the workers

I thought just america got blamed for this shit

I thought tipping was something exclusive to the USA

It's a thing I Canada, except servers make the same wages as everyone else in almost every province.
A restaurant that does this is asking to lose customers.

There's another problem that also pissed me off: restaurants stealing your tips from the workers. I ordered takeout from this place, only to find out from the workers one time that they dont actually keep the tips, it just goes to the restaurant owners if it's takeout.

I was legit pissed off. No, I don't want to pay more, im trying to make sure people can pay their fucking rent. those bastards, that shit should be illegal as hell (probably is).

You're supposed to tip on the bill sub-total before sales tax

15% $3.30
20% $4.40
25% 5.50

ive worked at restaurants where the take-out person was making the same $2.15 an hour like servers and tips were all they got. i agree that even for carryout tipping is bullshit. there was no service provide other than not fucking my order up.

also bartenders, like jfc why do we have to tip them (I always do, but it's the dumbest fucking thing in the world).

what really annoys me with modern 'tipping culture' is how every single employee that has any interaction with the public asks for a tip. cashiers asking for a tip? lol get outta here.

I tip based on service. Not the total of the bill.

If someone brought me 500 $1 bottles of wine, they deserve a better tip than someone who brings me 1 $2000 bottle.

Bartender makes sense if you're going to be sitting at the bar for a while. It's similar to a waiter waiting on your table since they're refilling your water, checking on you, and ultimately wiping down your "mess" (even if you leave the place clean and/or don't get food). I see it as, if you're at a "table" with someone checking on you and bringing you stuff, then you tip. But if you're at a club and just getting a pint from the draft and walking back to the TV/game room/etc, I agree it shouldn't have become the norm to tip for that.

IMO tipping your barber makes no sense. Like you said though, I still do it, but why?

I made a decent amount more than the average income back when I served tables and bartended. It didnt make me a millionaire but it was more than enough to live a decent life as a single young man. Its also one of the best jobs a single mother with no education and no time to go back to school is going to be able to get. Which is probably why a good chunk of my co workers were single mothers with no college education.

Pathetic. Pay your employees you greedy assholes.

I would rather have the meals be a bit more expensive, say 15% more to cover what a tip would be, and have tips be given for top notch service only.

Of course they remember bad tippers, they remember good ones too. Most people arent gonna fuck with your food though. Theyre just going to be annoyed they have you again, do the bare minimum to get you in and out and put you at the bottom of their priority list.

Sadly this. A lot of servers dont want a decent wage because they make so much with tips. Its all about chasing that $200 high you got.

most of them already do make a living wage, all hes saying is he wants it to be less than what the standard currently is and to add extra layers of taxation to lower it even further to boot.

Which is why almost anyone who actually works these jobs will tell you they want tipping to be the standard. I sure as shit would have never done it for hourly pay. Much easier jobs out there to just collect $15 an hour.
