This is over a span of only five or six years. $175 million and absolutely nothing to show for it.

Why do people keep funding him?

They want Texas to turn blue so it is easy mode in general election. GOP dont have path to victory without Texas.

He's lost what, the last 3 elections he was in? I'm not saying he can't run again but at some point you should take a hint.

If I lived in Georgia and Stacey Abrams ran again I would say the same thing.

Uvalde gave Abbott like 70% of the vote after he said 'it could have been worse' re: school shooting. Texas is beyond repair.

Not at all.

But this Democrat in particular has gone 0 for 3 and cost as much money as a major blockbuster motion picture.

Nothing significantly wrong with Beto's policies but Texas is simply a pure governing red state like Florida.

Yup. It's not a winnable policy to run on in Texas. People are fine with making it harder to get guns in the wrong hands, but wanting to completely ban guns is just not gonna get you the votes.

Hes a great candidate and was pretty close to winning. Texas needs to change to blue for all the issues its had. Beto was the man for the job. It just takes time.

Winning a statewide election when your state is the other color is POSSIBLE but you have to be willing to make concessions. Larry Hogan did it in Maryland by governing as a moderate

O'Rourke basically runs on your typical national Democrat platform without making any concessions to Texans. Why would any rural Texans vote for him? He doesn't have anything that appeals to them.

His logic on being the gun-rights guy was fine but yeah it didn't work out in Texas. The 2020 Democratic Primary was overloaded and so candidates really needed to differentiate themselves from each other on issues. The 2019 El Paso Shooting happened during the Primary race, and so Beto having represented El Paso in Congress himself made it a big part of his campaign's identity and became the Democratic candidate bringing up gun rights more than anyone. He gambled that it would be the big issue that would drive voters to his side but in the end it's self-evident that a mass shooting or two in Texas per year isn't enough to convince Texans that anything needs to be done about guns.

I don't. I'm just commenting on the way this guy seems to keep getting support and donors when he's clearly not a winning candidate.

They keep running him because he kept getting reasonably close for a democrat in a red state

Texas has also been seen as trending to purple sometime in the future

The margins in this election don't look great for his future though

Texas needs to be softened up in order to go blue in a statewide election. Which likely means you need someone more moderate on a lot of key-"Texas" issues like gun rights. They also need to really appeal to Hispanic voters. Like they need to actively motivate that block to go out and vote. There is no scenario where a democrat can take Texas without strong support of the Hispanic voter-base.

Honestly a lot of the funds spent there would likely be better off targeting more localized races like house seats and trying to get those to flip blue.
